At less than half the price of most hotel rooms on the island, we offer a private guestroom and private bath within our art-filled home, remotely located on the east side of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. We respect your privacy and will be as accommodating as is humanly possible, but we are a family with comings and goings and dogs barking and phones ringing, etc. We can't offer you the luxury of a hotel but we graciously welcome you into our home and our family.

The space

Your private room has its own entrance so you can come and go as you please. There is a small fence-enclosed outdoor space by your entrance with two chairs where you can smoke if you like. In your room is a TV with a Roku (we detached from cable), a DVD player, a GPS if you need it, snorkeling gear, an ice chest with cold water, two beach chairs, beach towels, and two beach umbrellas. There are also two plush bathrobes for you to use and extra towels. Your private bathroom is a short walk down the hallway, washer & dryer is in the hallway, and WiFi is everywhere, even out by the pool.

Guest access

Our entire property is open for your enjoyment and relaxation.

Interaction with guests

This is our home so, of course, we are here all the time. But we value your privacy so unless you need advice or information or want to join us for a glass of wine and conversation, we will try to remain scarce during your stay. The pool patio area is essentially yours exclusively. We (stupidly) never use it so it's the ideal area to be alone.

Other things to note

Full disclosure: Although the Caribbean sea surrounds us, we do not have a sea view. We look out onto rolling hills across the valley below. Also, we have two dogs that can bark at inopportune times and five outdoor cats. If you are not an animal lover or suffer from allergies, this is probably not a good choice for you.

Trust me, stay here. My girlfriend and I were and not sure what to expect booking airbnb and felt we were taking a risk. We completely lucked out with how bloomin’ great it was. I feel no place I stay will feel as great as this. Comparing the price of staying here to the nearby (pretty crappy) resorts is mental. I would have payed more to stay here than in a resort… Here is a fraction of the price. Highlights- -An enormous, wonderful varied (complementary) breakfast, made by Gail every morning, on their wooden terrace that looked over an incredibly beautiful view of the valley. - A pool, with excellent sunbathing area. - Bedroom and shower, comfortable, very clean, very tidy and has everything you need. - John picked us up from the airport. - The airport lost our bags and they G + J both helped us and made sure we got them the next day. No problem, thanks to them. - Gail dropped us off at the airport. - We felt completely at home. The house is perfectly located. With the freedom of going to any resort or any beach, you want to in the daytime for a fraction of the price of staying in one. This side of the island does seem a nicer place to stay. We felt we saw the entire island. (You need to rent a car. We rented a moped very cheaply from a place called “cruzin’ scooters” in Christianstead.) Gail and John themselves, were incredibly generous, wonderful and great fun. They made sure we were okay and had what we wanted and needed at all times. We both felt so relaxed and looked after. We feel we’ve become great friends. If there was an award for best airbnb on the earth, this place would win. I'm usually quite critical and grumpy about stuff.

We just returned from our stay at Gail and John's "home on the hill". Their home is gorgeous - very welcoming and clean with a porch that runs the length of the house with comfortable couches a hammock for relaxing, and a beautiful infinity pool overlooking the East End of St Croix. Gail is an artist and many of her beautiful paintings are on the walls throughout the house. She is a wealth of knowledge and information with many suggestions about things to do, places to see and recommendations for the best beaches and restaurants on the island. Our delicious breakfasts on the porch with yummy fruit were a wonderful way to start the day. Getting to know Gail and John was the highlight of our trip as we enjoyed our many conversations with them, accompanying them to Trivial Pursuit night with their friends and listening to music at a local spot. Gail and John are kind and gracious hosts and we left feeling as if we were leaving our good friends. We will definitely be returning to St. Croix to stay with Gail and John. Their mischievous rescue kitten was a constant source of entertainment.

Gail and John are wonderful hosts in their beautiful home. Just far enough off the main road to enjoy the quiet valley view from the porch. A great and relaxing place.

WOW if you like breakfast, for sure stay here. I am a host myself and Gail and John exceeded my high expectations! St. Croix was our favorite out of all the islands.

Gail literally saved our trip to St. Croix! If anything, I don't think that the pictures do her place justice. The porch is breathtaking with an awesome view of the hills (which we hiked, great view of Buck Island, and a good workout)! Gail's breakfast was amazing as well, very fresh and delicious. Gail and John were amazing people to just sit down with and relax. Deciding to stay with Gail was one of the best decisions we made in St. Croix. If we come back to visit, we will definitely be looking to stay here again!

We had a wonderful two week stay at Gail and John's. Every morning there was a wonderful breakfast set out to our liking. Our room had a private entrance and was clean, airy and inviting. We had all the accommodations we needed. They gave us privacy as little or as much as we wanted and we also had some great nights filled with wonderful conversation and getting to know one another. Gail had a great wealth and knowledge about the entire island and gave us some great tips as to where to go and what to see. Their art filled house was beautifully situated on the East side with a breath taking view, it truly was a very comfortable and relaxing stay. I can't say enough about Gail and John and our first time experience at an Airbnb! There's no doubt I would definately stay with them again the next time we come back to the island.

Originally from Pennsylvania, I have lived in St. Croix my entire adult life. My husband John (microbiologist) is from Scotland. John loves chess and is an excellent chess coach. I am a retired art teacher, hoping to establish myself as a late-blooming artist. We love hosting Airbnb guests in our home and enjoy traveling whenever we can.
