The space

In a place dominated by the blue sky and the green landscape we created Patriko, a luxurious villa with a unique view. It is an old traditional mansion whose renovation was completed in 2007 with lots of love and passion from the new owners. In the villa Patriko the traditional way of living meets the luxury and the modern amenities.

Stone walls and arches, wooden doors and ceilings, noble furniture, lights and paintings take you to forgotten worlds. The large swimming pool with the incredible view to the mountain and the sea, and the beautiful, fragrant, colorful garden decorate the fairy scene.

It lies in the picturesque village Kaliviani Kissamou where elements of the Cretan culture remain set up to these days, and you can spend time at the traditional coffee-shops and tavernas. Just a few kilometers away are the renowned Falasarna beach with the endless sand, the exotic Elafonisi, the breathtaking lagoon of Balos and the island of Gramvousa with the Venetian castle.

Clean villa with lovely welcome and delicious local dishes prepared by Nantia. Nantia is an excellent host and was very responsive. Balos beach is about a 20-30 mins drive from the villa. From there, there is a 30 min hike down to the beach. So, total time to beach is an hour. Otherwise quiet and peaceful neighbourhood.

I have stayed in many Airbnb all over the world. I have to say that Villa Portiko is the best accommodation I have stayed in. The host Nantia is a brilliant host, the villa is spotless and very comfortable and the welcome we got from Nantia is second to none.I have no reservation in recommending this Villa to anyone out there. In fact in due course I will be returning to Villa Portiko to experience Nantia hospitality.

An idyllic spot for exploring this part of Crete. Away from any hustle and bustle but well connected and in a beautiful village setting. The host family where inch perfect in helping us plan our holiday and then so very kind in helping us make tweaks and then providing some very welcome gifts and cakes for our party. Highly recommended for families with kids of all ages. A well built and furnished house that works so well. socially, to cook in and to sleep in. With terraces, a pool and garden that accommodates pleasure, leisure and deep relaxation. The village has access to quiet beaches and Kissamos and Balos and other destinations are a short drive away. It also has a terrific set of restaurants just a few hundred yards away and a shop to get basics in. Some days you don't have to move far to have a trip.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Villa Patriko. We were three families with 5 children (ages 11 months to 9) and Nantia had helpfully dealt with our extra bedding requirements! The villa was beautiful as can be seen from the web site photos and perfect for spending time in and around the pool (there was always some shade to be found!) and eating and drinking on the balcony. The aircon was a welcome relief for the children as we had some very hot days (40 degrees) and definitely needed at night. The villa had everything we needed and the maid service twice a week was great. There are three good tavernas within 2 minute walk from the Villa all offering quite different experiences and there’s a lovely cocktail bar at Mama's Dinner which also has live music some nights. Access to supermarkets is good with a large number in Kissamos (including a Carrefour), which is a ten minute drive away, but no shops in Kaliviani itself so daily trips for bread were required. There is a bakery and butchers in kissmos near the square as well. Nantia had prepared food for our first night which meant a relaxing start to the holiday and also some other supplies of food and drink. We ordered food in from a local cook in the village who makes and delivers Cretan dishes at a very reasonable cost (we ordered three times!). The local beach in Kissamos is small but ideal for a quick visit with easy parking and access to the beach, free sunbeds, and food and drink places on hand. Chania is also worth a visit, a lovely old Venetian port with a pretty seafront and also back alleys with some nice shops and restaurants. We visited Falassarna beach (30min drive) which is very beautiful with quite big waves for the kids to play in. We also visited Elafonissi beach, there are two routes to get there and both take about 1.5 hr drive on breath-taking mountain roads. It’s a great day out not only for the beach but for the drive through pretty mountain villages as well. I would advise getting to Ellafonissi as early as possible (before 11am) if you want to get a sunbed as on our first visit they were all gone, there are umbrellas in the villa that you can take as well though. The lagoon is amazing though and great for snorkelling with the children. I would highly recommend this villa for a lovely quite relaxing holiday in Crete.

Response from Nantia:
Dear Rachael, Thank you for choosing villa Patriko for your stay. In order not to confuse future guests, I would like to clarify that Falassarna beach is 10 kms away and that makes it about 10 min drive, not 30. The rest information and recomendations are all correct.

Very nice house with a beautiful view on the sea. Unlucky with the wind we were not able to enjoy the pool as much as we wanted. The terrace is perfect for drinks! Moreover the location have some nice Crète restaurants around the house. On top of that Nantia is more than an host: a full diner was waiting for us and nantia gaves us some very good tips as well as She did also arrange some trips for us. To summarize: very nice house hosted by a very nice people! We will come back with no hesitation.

Hello :) My name is Nantia- Evagelia.I have two daughters and I live in Chania. I love travelling, cooking and receive people in my home. I know travelers wish to try out what is real and typical, and since not everybody has friends as tourist guides, this type of stay will help you avoid tourist traps and discover what to do during your stay at Chania, while enjoying a wonderful home. Me and my husband Kostas we will try to enjoy ,as much as we can, your holidays in Crete.
