Isle of Wight, England, United Kingdom

Stroud House is ideally situated close to numerous footpaths and cycle routes and provides a perfect stop over point for those walking or cycling round the IOW. The Freshwater Way is almost on the doorstep and gives a lovely route to walk to Freshwater Bay and on up to Tennyson Down and the Needles. Alum Bay, with its cable car to the beach and where you can get boat trips out to see the Needles up close, lies below Tennyson Down and has a large car park. Headon Warren lies on the Northern shore with wonderful views of the mainland and Hurst Castle and footpaths lead down to Totland Bay.

Farringford House, Alfred Lord Tennyson’s home, which has been beautifully restored and is normally open to the public (closed due to COVID) is a 10/15 minute walk from the house. In the Freshwater Bay area there is Dimbola Lodge, home of Julia Margaret Cameron, a Victorian photographer and friend of Tennyson. This has a museum, gallery and cafe. Also the Piano Cafe provides delicious coffee, lunches and evening meals with live music on certain days. The Red Lion is an excellent local pub and there are various takeaways in Freshwater Village close by, all within walking distance of the house. The historic town of Yarmouth is 3 miles away by road or via the Old Rail way line for those on foot or bike where there are several pubs and restaurants. The beaches of Totland and Colwell are a short drive from the house and is where one can enjoy spectacular sunsets at either the Waterfront restaurant (Totland) or the Hut (Colwell). The house is close to several local wedding venues and taxis can be arranged if required.

Within a couple of miles there is Tapnell Farm Park, an farm themed amusement park and all weather attraction with plenty to keep young and not so young entertained. The Cow is their family restaurant on site and they have recently opened the IOW's only outdoor water park.

There are many other attractions on the IOW, Osborne House, home of Queen Victoria, Carisbrooke Castle, The Botanic Gardens at Ventnor, IOW Zoo and numerous hiddens beaches. One is never at a loss for somewhere to explore.
