Neighbourhood highlights

Ballast Quay is an attractive cobbled street right beside the Thames and within easy walking distance of historic Royal Greenwich, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is located upon the popular riverside walk from Greenwich to the Dome / O2 and is well-situated for access to local amenities including the famous Greenwich Market, shops, restaurants, cafes, pubs, theatres, cinemas, and leisure centres.

Visitor Attractions:

Greenwich's naval heritage goes back more than 600 years. We are close to Greenwich Park, London's oldest Royal Park with its panoramic views of Greenwich, Docklands and the City of London beyond.

Also close by:

The Greenwich Royal Observatory - built in 1675 by Sir Christopher Wren, home of Time itself and now including a world-class planetarium.

The Old Royal Naval College - designed by Wren and completed by a succession of outstanding architects including Hawksmoor and John Vanbrugh. The Painted Hall, Visitor Centre and Mean Time Old Brewery bar & restaurant.

The National Maritime Museum - now includes sixteen brand new galleries with plenty of hands-on activities for children of all ages.

The Queen's House - one of the first classical buildings in England, designed by Inigo Jones in 1616, featuring the elegant (and supposedly haunted) Tulip Staircase.

The Cutty Sark - the beautiful tea-clipper, the fastest of her time, preserved in dry dock since 1954 and recently renovated.

The world famous O2 state-of-the-art arena. It also includes a bowling alley, clubs, cinema, exhibition spaces, bars...

Also the Fan Museum, the Ranger's House, St Alfege's Church, or the Thames Barrier, all well worth a visit.

Greenwich is also rightly renowned for its famous market, shops, restaurants and pubs. Two of the best pubs in London are within easy reach.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, built about 1804, is a striking building with a bowed oriel window and is actually located in Ballast Quay. There are wonderful views of the river, either from upstairs inside the pub or from the seating area outside. Within five minutes walk is the Trafalgar Tavern, built in 1837 by John Kay, an elegant Regency stuccoed riverside inn.

Up The Creek world class comedy club with its own microbrewery. (Kevin Hart recently played here!)

Greenwich Theatre has many highly acclaimed productions to its credit.

Greenwich also boasts three cinemas, the independent Greenwich Picture House, the Odeon multiplexes on the Peninsular and at the O2.

There's also no shortage of live music at venues in Greenwich and Blackheath.
