A large house set 27 miles out of downtown Haines. I stayed during the summer to briefly visit a friend. The rest of the time I explored the very photogenic natural beauty of the surrounding areas from lush green mountains, to wondering rocky river beds, and the perils of the aptly named Mosquito Lake. While weather is hard to predict there, the slow wet days were spent playing pool or hanging out in one of the many cozy sitting areas reading, editing, or just having some coffee or tea and enjoying the sight of the mountains across the street. This place will certainly be on my revisit list. Some practical stuff: no laundry on site, no taxi's or Uber yet (threw a guy at a bar a 20 to get out there, hitch hiking works if you don't mind it), car rentals in town ($$), don't forget there are bears, check ferry schedules for specific days (not the same every day) if you're coming in that way, birds are chirpy during day & perfectly silent all night.

Was traveling through on my way to catch the ferry in Haines. The house is huge and beautiful inside. Very open with Lots of privacy and very clean. Comfortable bed. Staff very helpful with local suggestions. I would highly recommend staying here if you're looking for some solitude and a quiet relaxing evening. I'll be back for sure if I'm ever traveling through again. Thank you for the hospitality.

Stayed for one night while traveling through the area. Great place to relax and recuperate before hitting the road again. Welcoming hosts, eccentric parrots, in a beautiful corner of Alaska. Thanks for everything!

Had a very enjoyable stay at the funny farm, Bruce and Carrie (along with Maggie the dog and their birds) were very welcoming! The house was huge and lovely. Carrie was kind enough to take me our for a ride in the truck and show me around a bit, fed me a delicious home made burger for supper and drop me off in town the next day! Would reccommend this place to anyone :)

Bruce and Carrie were beyond accommodating, welcoming, and overall fantastic hosts. Being a distance from town, they made arrival easy and made a strong effort to meet my travel needs. They were perfect hosts, were inviting yet allowed sufficient space for independent travel, and made me feel at home and welcome, regardless of my schedule. I would highly recommend staying at the funny farm, especially if you are independent and adventurous and open to sponteniatey. However, they made my trip there extremely easy and flexible, allowing for the ultimate adventure. I loved my time in haines and thoroughly enjoyed staying with this local family that everyone in town and beyond, all of South east alaska, knows and loves dearly. Thank you!!
