The space
Just 2 miles from the Georgian market town of Ashbourne, yet tucked away down a private lane, Swallows Cottage is a peaceful, single-storey Peak District hideaway, perfect for walkers, couples and small families.

The cottage features a master bedroom with antique four-poster bed, TV and countryside views, a twin bedroom, and a limestone bathroom with underfloor heating.

The spacious beamed sitting room has a cosy log-burning stove (first basket of logs provided), a huge comfortable sofa, armchairs, TV, and a French armoire filled with books, games and DVDs.

The well-equipped kitchen/dining room overlooks the gardens and outdoor heated swimming pool (open June–August). It includes a dishwasher, Smeg fridge/freezer, Delonghi bean-to-cup coffee machine, and all essentials (tea, coffee, basics provided).

Guests enjoy five acres of gardens and orchards, plus exclusive use of the outdoor heated pool in summer, with terrace, four-poster loungers, dining area and wood-burning BBQ/heater. Pool towels included.

Walk directly from the door to Tissington, Dovedale and the famous Stepping Stones. Chatsworth House is 30 minutes away. Nearby are excellent pubs and restaurants, including The Old Gate Inn, The Old Dog at Thorpe, and award-winning Callow Hall.

Travel cot and high chair provided. All linen, towels and swimming towels included. Fibre-optic WiFi. Full local guide and walking routes provided.

Fully self-contained cottage with outdoor heated swimming pool with sunloungers. Please note that pool is heated and available for use only during June, July and August. Large 5 acre gardens with orchard, croquet lawn, table tennis . Patio area with Weber charcoal bbq. Plenty of off-road parking.

Other things to note
Swallows Cottage has been running for over 15 years now...we've had some fabulous reviews. We lived in the Cottage when we were doing the house up so have made sure there are plenty of home comforts - excellent quality pure white cotton bedlinen and a few special things, such as a Delonghi bean-to-cup coffee machine, and plenty of kitchen essentials. There is a huge 5 acre garden where you can play croquet and a charming Wendy House - plus plenty of wonderful walks locally.

With Derbyshire's jewel, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall and Kedleston Hall only 30 minutes away there's plenty to do and see. Carsington Water for cycling, walking and watersports, Alton Towers for the more adventurous, Go Ape in Buxton, not forgetting the Georgian market town of Ashbourne...filled with independent retailers - great delis, butchers, Fresh Choice fruit and veg, fishmongers, clothes and antique shops - M&S Food, Sainsburys, Majestic Wine. Tissington Village and Trail are only a couple of miles away. There is a direct footpath to the unspoilt estate village of Tissington from your back door and lockable storage for bikes. Unspoilt local pubs such as "The Old Gate" in Brassington - great buzz on a Friday night and good pub food. The Old Dog at Thorpe is only a few miles away and perfect for a fire-side (or garden) meal or drink after visiting The Stepping Stones at Dovedale. "The Duncombe Arms" at Ellastone for buzz and great food. Callow Hall, just outside Ashbourne has re-opened after an amazing refurbishment - a "must" for a special meal.

Simon and I moved back to Derbyshire from London 32 years ago - we absolutely love living here and relish being so close to Ashbourne. With three children (now all in their twenties and thirties) it has been a fabulous place to bring up children. We love travelling but always look forward to coming back to The Peak District - whatever time of year. Our perfect evening would be having great friends round to supper in the kitchen - with relaxed, easy food so that we can enjoy their company!
