This is a charming apartment with an amazing view of the Hudson River. It is directly across from Peebles Island State Park. The Mohawk River splits around the Island to join the Hudson here. The Erie Canal's 1st Lock in Waterford is just a few hundred yards from your window.

The space

The steps between the decks give you direct to Hudson River.
(You may make arrangements w/me for a short boat ride to the Locks or Horseshoe Falls.) Spacious kitchen & bath, small LR with one twin bed that double as couch during the day; and a pullout couch.

Kitchen, bath, Private Deck accessed by glass door from LR. Yard & steps leading to River & boats.

We like to greet our guests & briefly show them the place. We like to share breakfast w/ them when our mutual schedules allow.
Beyond that, guests may interact w/ us or not as is their preference. This is a quiet space w/no TV.

By walking a mere half block North down our quiet residential street, you will find a small Riverfront Park and Troy's only Public Boat Launch. Bordering that is a shopping plaza w/a Hannaford Supermarket, Dunkin' Donuts, Mr. Subb, Pizza Hut, Burger King,
Chinese Restaurant, Rite Aid Pharmacy, etc. A few steps further and you may cross the Bridge to the Historic Village of Waterford and access their fine shops & restaurants. You may walk or bike along the Canal Trails & Rail Trails from here or hike the 2 1/2 mile loop trails in Peebles Island State Park.

Bus stop only one block away on 2nd Avenue at the shopping plaza. Easy biking & walking to everything as well. (Two loaner bikes available.)

Decks between yard & River are for use by other tenants of house. Our deck is attached to house

Richard and Jeannie were wonderful hosts! They picked us up from the train station and dropped us back off as well. They gave us a brief tour of the area and if we weren't too busy, we would have definitely taken up Richard on his offer to take us out in the boat. The apartment is very cosy and the view is incredible. We had a great time!

This place is located right on the water. I spent some time at night peacefully enjoying the calm, quiet, scenic view from the deck. The spacious accommodations made for a comfortable experience and Richard and his wife are very nice people.

The Riverhouse is a perfect if you are looking for a soulful spot with all the bases covered... including a splendid riverside location. Gracious hosts make this a relaxing, convenient spot. My family has returned time after time. Thanks Richard and Jeannie!

Richard's place is in a great location for sight seeing and outdoor activity. It became a crash pad for our week stay due to a family wedding, but we did enjoy morning coffee on the lower deck over looking the river and an evening on the back deck with a bottle of wine. This is a great place to relax!

I am saddened to report this as I believe this host means well and he says he's had a lot of good experiences. I MUST honestly report though as I depend on the airbnb reviews to assist me in selecting my stays. We have done a lot of airbnbs and have all been fabulous experiences; even hosts have become long-time friends. Richards place was untidy, unclean and just nota place we could stay with comfort. We made an effort, even moved our things in and the more we looked around, we decided we had to leave--with no other place to go. Later, Richard texted us and blamed us for checking in early which we did not. I texted him we would arrive by 4 PM and he texted back thanking me for letting him know. Door was open and keys on counter. It was after I texted him we weren't staying that he came back blaming us. Had he been kind about us not staying, I would have been kinder to him. I felt badly for him. I believe we just caught him at a time he had too much on his plate. It would have taken a lot more than an hour to make the place suitable for us. I am so sorry to write this and have never had more than a 5 star rating for an airbnb. I got taken by the decks and being on the river so I didn't look carefully enough at the photos which are fairly accurate. I hope Richard continues to have success with his rentals and am so sorry we weren't one of them. We found a new Best Western in Troy and had a great 2 nights stay then moved on. We were to be at Richards for 4 nights so you can imagine the distress we went through PLUS it was a Birthday celebration!!!! I am sad to share this report but must be honest.

Richard and Jeannie are such lovely host. The location was absolutely beautiful. The day we got there we were greeted by the most beautiful sunset. The place was exactly how we expected it to be. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. They invited us to have some BBQ, and Richard even took us on a boat ride!Overall, I would highly recommend staying here. You wouldn't be disappointed!

Very scenic location by the Hudson River, saw a lot of life on the river. Fishing is great. Nice size apartment for 2, beautiful decks, also a dock on the river. Neighborhood is good, people in the neighborhood very nice. a nice quiet neighborhood. Close to stores, restaurants and close to highways. Not far from tourist areas.

I am a teacher, boatbuilder, designer-builder who has been displaced from the pleasures of the Harbors in Marblehead and Salem, MA and is learning to love the pleasures of the Hudson River.
My co-host and wife of 31 years, Jeannie Steigler, teaches ESL at RPI and is Assistant Director of their Advising and Learning Center. She is also an avid flower gardener which greatly enhances our little city oasis. We met doing design-build projects together.
We offer to pick up our guests who are arriving by plane, train or bus for $20.00-
Substantially less than cab fare - whenever our schedules allow us to do that.
We also will take guests for scenic rowboat rides across the Hudson River to the start of the Erie Canal for an additional $30.00 when weather permits.
