About this listing

Stringer’s Cottage is a private, romantic getaway in a gorgeous bush setting & features a luxurious queen size bed with all linen and towels provided . There is a cosy wood fire, well equipped kitchen overlooking the creek with gas oven, cooktop & fridge, & an indoor toilet & separate shower. Bedside lamps add ambience & there is a selection of books and magazines to browse through. There is also a small selection of games and CDs, and two comfy armchairs by the fire in the bed-sitting room.

The space

Stringer’s Cottage features a queen size bed with a luxuriously warm doona and plenty of pillows. The bed is made, and sheets and towels are provided as part of the rental price. Bedside tables and reading lamps complete the picture. The bedroom has windows opening on to a bushland setting, and a sealed fireplace which adds to the romantic ambience. Firewood is provided and the wood burning fire will burn efficiently day and night to keep the cottage cosy in Winter.

In Summer, Stringer’s Cottage is a great escape from the heat, in the shady Stringer’s Gully. Leave the screen door closed and enjoy the valley breezes, the smell of eucalyptus and the sound of the creek as it rushes by below.

The large bedroom features two comfy armchairs and a wide selection of books and magazines to while away the time. The CD/radio keeps you in touch with the modern world, and there is a small selection of CDs though you might want to bring your own. (If you have an auxiliary cord you can play music on your phone through this system).

The galley kitchen has fridge, stove, oven and plenty of crockery and cutlery, and there is a small supply of complimentary tea, coffee and milk provided for your arrival. The kitchen counter overlooks Stringer’s Creek and there are stools so you can sit and enjoy the view while you dine. There is a separate shower with instantaneous gas hot water and a separate indoor toilet and hand basin.

The cottage is light and bright with its own porch and outdoor dining area, cosy in Winter, cool in Summer. Steps lead up to the road where you are just a short walk to the village. Please note there are approximately 35 steps so pack lightly! However, parking is off- road next to the Coach House wood shed, and is all on the one level for unloading when you first arrive. If no-one is in the Coach House feel free to use the driveway to walk in and out if that is easier.

You have access to the whole cottage and an outdoor garden area and outdoor setting. The property is not fenced, and is reached by a staircase down from the road.

Minimum 2 nights though this can be negotiated with the owner. A $50 surcharge applies for 1 night only on weekends. For one night midweek stays, long weekends and public holidays a slight surcharge of $20 may apply.

I can be contacted in an emergency, day or night on the mobile phone -sending an email is best.

While staying at Stringer's Cottage you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. The scenic Walhalla Tourist Train runs Wednesdays and weekends, and the gold mine tours run the same days. There are walking ghost tours on the weekends. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about 20 minutes from the rest of the town. Rawson is a 10 minute drive, Erica 20 minutes, Mt St Gwinear 30 minutes away with toboganning and cross-country skiing and Mt Baw Baw an hours drive away for downhill skiing.

Everything is walking distance, and the cottage sits above the tourist railway line. There is off-road parking for your vehicle next door, beside the wood shed at the Coach House. It is ideal to park and unload here if there is no one staying at the Coach House, but as a courtesy to guests use your own staircase down from the road at all other times.
You do not require a 4WD though there are lots of local tracks to explore if you do have one.

This is a small 2 person cottage and not suitable for everybody. Be warned, there is a short staircase down to it from the road.

You have access to the whole cottage and garden area.

You have the property to yourself, but I am just a phone call away if you have any questions or problems.

A minimum 1 night stay may be possible but you need to contact the host as a surcharge will apply.

Had such a lovely weekend hidden away at stringers cottage. The cottage was well stocked with supplies such as tea/coffee, fire wood and plenty of books to whittle the day/night away. With minimal electrical outputs and no television it felt like the perfect place to escape the bustle of the city. Anna was a great host who was easy to message and answered all our questions. Would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone looking for a secluded bush getaway.

Such a beautiful and scenic little cottage! We had such a relaxing and cosy getaway at Stringers. Very well maintained with all necessities provided for a relaxing getaway. Stunning location with picturesque views of the surrounding forests. Very close walking distance to historic landmarks and other attractions such as the train and gold mine. Local pub has an excellent (but limited) menu and is also a short walk away. Stringer's Cottage is an absolutely unforgettably stay in a gorgeous location that you will not regret.

I'm a working mum with two teenagers. I love to travel and have seen a lot of the world, so I know firsthand what people expect from their accommodation. I like to think that people see what they get, get what they pay for and enjoy a unique travel experience. I'm here to help!
