Spend the night in a gently haunted 1947 former elementary school in a tiny fishing lake town 18 miles from Mt. Rainier! Rent a boat and fish on the lake. Enjoy sunsets & deer, and beer at the HQ tavern. Entire place (5 rooms) rents for $500/weekend.
We're converting this kickass 12,000 square foot former elementary school and 7,000 square foot gym on 5 acres into a multi-disciplinary overnight artists residency. Your stay not only puts you near Mt. Rainier, but it helps to support a building that will at other times of year house artists doing their thing. So, your vacation helps the arts. How cool is that?
Guests will have a bedroom with queen bed and either an ensuite half-bath or bathroom nearby in the hall. Showers are in the gym's locker room. Wander on the 5 acre property. Sit on the back deck. Barbecue. Dance like no one's watching in the gym. Sit on the front lawn and watch sun set over Rainier. Make some s'mores or toss a frisbee to your dog in the back field. Watch the deer and listen to the frogs.
Interaction with guests
I or a local will try and arrange to greet you and show you around and then leave you to your own devices, but there's also a key box if we can't coordinate. I will likely be staying in another room on the property at points during your stay. The kitchen/dining area is communal.
Other things to note
There are multiple rooms (5) in the school and the dining area seats 14, so the place is available for groups. We're less than 2 hours from both Portland and Seattle, and 1 hour from Tacoma.
No indoor smoking, and please be careful when smoking as the area is rural.

I'm a longtime journalist and creative writer who in recent years has begun doing literary volunteering and is starting up an artists' residency in a former elementary school near Mt. Rainier. I work from home most of the time and enjoy sharing information with travelers -- if they want to hear it. I'm into good but simple food, literary fiction and memoir, and am a decent tarot reader.
