Our guests have said that our home is "charming and quirky". We are happy with that... We see our home as a retreat - it is a place to totally unwind, relax, be pampered and immerse yourself in nature. Although we do have WIFI, we would hope that guests will come to enjoy the peace and beauty of our local environment and take time out just to be.
We have several beautiful sandy beaches nearby, the nearest one being Hemmick which is just a 15 minute walk down our lane, plus either side of Hemmick are another 2 beaches, both a 40 minute walk away - Vault Beach (famous for it's appearance in the film 'About Time') and Porthluney, next to the famous Caerhays Castle (setting for 2 German TV adaptations of books by Cornish author, Rosamunde Pilcher and the latest Tim Burton film, 'Miss Peregrine's School For Peculiar Children'). All the beaches are great for swimming and we can provide beach towels to save packing your own - Please ask when booking.
The South West Coast Path is only a 10 minute walk away and the views are spectacular... Dolphins, seals and basking sharks have been spotted off the coast regularly and we feel incredibly privileged to have seen them ourselves!
Out of season, the area is wonderfully quiet and there's nothing nicer than spending the day exploring the local coastline, then returning to curl up in front of the open fire, with one of our many books.
Included in your stay is bed linen, towels, WIFI throughout the house, a kettle with complimentary herbal teas in the bedroom and private parking.
Our wholesome vegan breakfasts start with a freshly prepared organic vegetable/fruit juice, then either cereal or our slow cooked super food porridge and home made bread/toast with preserves, choice of teas and ground coffee. If you are here on Sundays, then it's pancakes for breakfast! We serve from around 9am. If you need to eat earlier, then please do let us know beforehand.
We are happy to provide vegan evening meals for guests too, which are always freshly made using organic produce. We do ask for a contribution towards our meals and need prior warning too - so please ask when booking. Thank you!
We use natural, vegan cleaning products - bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar and lemon juice, as well as Bio D and Ecoleaf. We always have vegan soap & shampoo available for guest use.
We are keen recyclers and composters, so appreciate guests who feel the same way. We also like to conserve energy and water. We have dual flush toilets and LED low energy lighting. Due to our rural location, our home has a septic tank/soak-away system - which means we are very particular about what goes down the drains. Our toilet tissue is biodegradable and we would prefer guests to use natural toiletries and if unsure, please use the toiletries provided.
No smoking indoors, but guests are welcome to use the back garden.
Pets are not allowed.
** PLEASE NOTE **
1) OWN TRANSPORT IS RECOMMENDED - There is a bus stop 1 mile away & a community bus which operates most days for local excursions.
2) WE DO NOT HAVE A TV.
3) WE ARE A VEGAN HOUSEHOLD - We do not consume any meat, poultry, fish, crustacea, honey, milk, cheese or eggs. We ask guests to not consume any of these also while in the house.
Please bear in mind that Meadowcroft is in a small hamlet and although our postcode is St Austell (our nearest town), it is actually 12 miles away on a minor road. Meadowcroft is a few miles drive from any main road and the lanes are quite narrow and winding. This can make for a long journey, particularly in the busy summer months... We are not centrally located in Cornwall, but there are so many wonderful places to visit within easy reach, our favourite being the beautiful unspoilt creeks of the Roseland Peninsula.
Thank you and look forward to hearing from you.
Kay and Simon
Guests have use of our private en-suite bedroom, our guest sitting/dining room with books, instruments, dining table and in the winter months there is the open fire and woodburner. We also have a large rear garden with picnic tables.
We have our own rooms and kitchen which we prefer to be off limits to guests, but are willing to be flexible if guests want to prepare a simple vegan meal when we're around. Please note - we do not have a microwave oven.
Interaction with Guests
We are often in and out during the week, but are around most evenings and weekends. We are more than happy to recommend places to visit, eat and we do love to chat!
Guests can choose to have either quiet meals in the guest sitting room or are welcome to join us in our dining room.
We are situated in a quiet upland seaside hamlet, free from street lights. Enjoy waking up to birdsong and watching beautiful sunsets on nearby Dodman Point. Experience the rolling sea mists and invigorating storms which take your breath away. Inhale the clean Cornish air and marvel at the clarity of the night sky. Plenty of sunshine and mild winters makes for a great holiday all year round.
We are 10 minutes walk from the South West Coast Path and 15 minutes walk from the lovely Hemmick Beach. There are many more gorgeous, unspoiled beaches nearby and our local pub is a mile away (20 minutes walk) serving food and real ales with live music too.
OWN TRANSPORT IS RECOMMENDED - There is a public bus stop 1 mile away and a community bus which operates most days for local excursions.
We are also happy to collect and drop off guests without transport and charge the following:

Vegan, former home educating (unschooling) parents of 3 wonderful adult children & 2 cats.
We are originally from the North-West/Midlands, but grabbed hold of an exciting opportunity which brought us to Cornwall in 2002 & we have never looked back!
We now live in a stunning area of the Cornish coast, where we can usually be found cooking or eating & when we're not doing either of these - we'll be talking food!
We love sharing our home with guests, particularly like-minded folks looking for somewhere a bit different. In return, we offer some TLC, good wholesome food & space to breathe. We are always full of enthusiasm about our local area & can offer advice on places to swim, walk, picnic, see live music, films, books to read because these are all things we love ourselves as well as blogging (Just Humans Being) & road tripping!
We have our own green housekeeping business & are members of our local Transition Group. Simon plays bass with Cornish Indie band, The Dolphins Fly & Kay has an interest in vegan nutritional therapy & holistic diagnosis.
We have taken time out to care for Simon's Mum, who has dementia. She recently moved into a full time care facility, which has allowed us the freedom to get on with our lives again... So we are happy to be back in the Airbnb family! :-)
