About this listing
If you are looking for a real get-away, look no further. Large DOUBLE EN-SUITE ROOM in very quiet former farmhouse, just a short walk from the beautiful Hemmick Beach. Enjoy clear night skies, lovely sunsets, yummy vegan breakfasts & NO TV... Yippee!
We are back after taking time out to care for Simon's Mum... We have a bright & airy DOUBLE EN-SUITE ROOM with large powerful shower in a quiet coastal hamlet.
Our guests have said that our home is "charming & quirky" & we're happy with that... We see our home as a retreat - it is a place to totally unwind, relax, be pampered & immerse yourself in nature. Although we do have WIFI, we would hope that guests will come to enjoy the peace & beauty of our local environment & take time out just to be.
We have several beautiful sandy beaches nearby, the nearest one being Hemmick which is just a 15 minute walk down our lane, plus either side of Hemmick are another 2 beaches - Vault & Porthluney. All the beaches are great for swimming & we can provide beach towels for £2 each to save packing your own!
The South West Coast Path is only a 10 minute walk away & the views are spectacular... Dolphins, seals & basking sharks have been spotted off the coast regularly & we feel incredibly privileged to have seen them ourselves!
Out of season, the area is wonderfully quiet & there's nothing nicer than spending the day exploring the local coastline, then returning to curl up in front of the open fire, with one of our many books.
Included in your stay is bed linen, towels, WIFI throughout the house, a kettle with complimentary herbal teas in the bedroom & private parking.
Our wholesome vegan breakfasts with either muesli or Simon's super food porridge & Kay's home made bread with preserves, tea & coffee are also included & we are happy to occasionally provide healthy evening meals for guests.
We do need prior warning for all meals - so please ask when booking. Thank you!
We use natural, vegan cleaning products (Bio D & Ecoleaf) & there is always vegan soap & shampoo available for guest use.
We are keen recyclers & composters, so appreciate guests who feel the same way. We also like to conserve energy & water. We have dual flush toilets & LED low energy lighting. Due to our rural location, our home has a septic tank/soak-away system - which means we are very particular about what goes down the drains. Our toilet tissue is biodegradable & we would prefer guests to use natural toiletries & if unsure, please use the toiletries provided.
Smoking is not allowed
Pets are not allowed
** PLEASE NOTE **
1) OWN TRANSPORT IS RECOMMENDED - There is a bus stop 1 mile away & a community bus which operates most days for local excursions.
2) WE DO NOT HAVE A TV.
3) WE ARE A VEGAN HOUSEHOLD - We do not consume any meat, poultry, fish, crustacea, honey, milk, cheese or eggs. We ask guests to not consume any of these also while in the house.
Please bear in mind that Meadowcroft is in a small hamlet & although our postcode is St Austell (our nearest town), it is actually 12 miles away on a minor road. Meadowcroft is a few miles drive from any main road & the lanes are quite narrow & winding. This can make for a long journey, particularly in the busy summer months... We are not centrally located in Cornwall, but there are so many wonderful places to visit within easy reach, our favourite being the beautiful unspoilt creeks of the Roseland Peninsula.
Thank you & look forward to hearing from you.
Kay & Simon

We are often in & out during the week, but are around most evenings & weekends. We are more than happy to recommend places to visit, eat & we do love to chat!
We are situated in a quiet upland seaside hamlet, free from street lights. Enjoy waking up to birdsong & watching beautiful sunsets on nearby Dodman Point. Experience the rolling sea mists & invigorating storms which take your breath away. Inhale the clean Cornish air & marvel at the clarity of the night sky. Plenty of sunshine & mild winters makes for a great holiday all year round.
We are 10 minutes walk from the South West Coast Path & 15 minutes walk from the lovely Hemmick Beach. There are many more gorgeous, unspoiled beaches nearby &
our local pub is a mile away (20 minutes walk) serving food & real ales with live music too.

Kay and Simon are/were a really welcoming and caring couple. Their home lived up to, and exceeded my expectations. Spotless, comfortable and with privacy if I wanted it and company if I didn't. A shower to die for. Beautiful quiet spot with lovely walks and, thankfully, good weather for most of my stay. Can recommend....as long as you have your own transport. I had.
Own lounge/dining room, but he reason I've knocked off a star is the fact there was no use whatsoever of the kitchen ot anywhere to prepare food. Kay and Simon did, kindly, cook me a meal but as I am not Vegan it was not to my tastes
Thanks Tricia - we do make it very clear in our write up that we don't share our kitchen, which you would have read before booking... We did allow guests to use the kitchen during our first year, but after several breakages, unwashed dishes & the back door being left open while we & the guests were out all day - we decided to remove the kitchen option, as it's not an Airbnb obligation. We think it's a bit mean criticising us when you already knew the score & a shame you never mentioned it while you were here. Nevermind, at least you know now that staying in a vegan household is perhaps not your cup of herbal tea! K&S :-)
We could highly recommend this place! It was a delight to stay at this old house and got to know Kay and Simon. It felt like visiting friends and we are very grateful for the time we spent there. The bedroom was very comfortable and everything was very clean, pleasant and quiet. The breakfast was great!! After 14 days traveling through the South of England it was very relaxing to stay two days in this great area with this cheerful, interesting and likable hosts. This was one of our best airbnd experiences. Thank you Kay and Simon!
My teenage daughter and I spent a lovely 5 nights at Kay and Simon's B & B. Everything about our stay was great, from the spotless and spacious bedroom and bathroom, to the breathtaking ocean views just steps from the house, to Simon's hearty, delicious porridge and Kay's yummy fresh bread and coffee each morning. What makes this place extra special are Kay and Simon themselves. They are a warm, charming and funny couple, who clearly enjoy each other's company and what they do. We had lovely conversations about movies, food, books and music, and they gave us some great suggestions of places to visit during our stay. We chose this place somewhat randomly (though the notion of a vegan retreat was appealing), as we didn't know he area well, and really lucked out. It was fairly easy to get everywhere we wanted to go (including the Penzance/Lands End area, Lizard Point, Tintagel Castle, St Mawe's Castle, St Michael's Mount, the Lost Gardens of Heligan)--everything is within ~50 miles, though with some of the very narrow, picturesque roads that can take a while. It is also worth just spending time close to the house. The southwest coast trail (especially heading east from the beach) is great for running, and the beach and surrounding pastures are gorgeous. I highly recommend Kay & Simon's place!!
We had a wonderful stay in the house of Kay&Simon... perfect to relax and calm down from everyday life and work.
Cosy room and great bathroom!
Beautiful beach und sweet sweet town Gorran haven are in walking distance.
Kay and Simon are such wonderful humble hosts and allthough we arrived late at 12pm (!) they made us feel more than welcome in their home!
The breakfast was fantastic, especially the bread was delicious!
We would deeply recommend this place to stay it was the perfect start for our Cornwall trip!
Kay and Sime are wonderful hosts and our stay was everything we could have hoped for. They provided a very spacious, comfortable and homely room and the bathroom was fabulous. Even if you are not vegan, the porridge and homemade bread at breakfast is absolutely delicious and we looked forward to it every morning! Kay and Sime recommended some great places to visit so we definitely made the most of our stay in Cornwall. The village of Boswinger is very picturesque and the coastal walk down to the sea is definitely a must-do when you stay here. Thank you so much again Kay and Sime, it was a perfect stay! Eisha & Will
Kay & Simon are the most wonderful hosts!
They are very friendly and welcoming, provide good suggestions for visitors, have provided ample space for their guests (bedroom/bath and a sitting/dining area), are very flexible and accommodating, and provide a great breakfast spread. They also offered dinner, though we had always eaten before coming 'home' each day.
It's also clear they enjoy each other's company, which makes it even more enjoyable to be in their home.
I can think of no better hosts!
You don't have to be vegan to go here, it was just as we expected, as Simon & Kay described. And a cosy laid back atmosphere in a spacious part of the house. A quiet and perfect setting for walking the cornwall coastline Boswinger to Gorran Haven and back, with a great little coastal cafe just as you arrive in Gorran Haven. also within walking distance to Gorran Churchtown, pub meal in the Barley sheif.
And a great start to the day with Simons very tasty and huge bowl of porridge of mixed oats, corns, seeds fruits, coffee with soya milk, and toast .
About the Host, Kay & Simon
Vegan, former home educating (unschooling) parents of 3 wonderful adult children & 2 cats.
We are originally from the North-West/Midlands, but grabbed hold of an exciting opportunity which brought us to Cornwall in 2002 & we have never looked back!
We now live in a stunning area of the Cornish coast, where we can usually be found cooking or eating & when we're not doing either of these - we'll be talking food!
We love sharing our home with guests, particularly like-minded folks looking for somewhere a bit different. In return, we offer some TLC, good wholesome food & space to breathe. We are always full of enthusiasm about our local area & can offer advice on places to swim, walk, picnic, see live music, films, books to read because these are all things we love ourselves as well as blogging (Just Humans Being) & road tripping!
We have our own green housekeeping business & are members of our local Transition Group. Simon plays bass with Cornish Indie band, The Dolphins Fly & Kay has an interest in vegan nutritional therapy & holistic diagnosis.
We have taken time out to care for Simon's Mum, who has dementia. She recently moved into a full time care facility, which has allowed us the freedom to get on with our lives again... So we are happy to be back in the Airbnb family! :-)
