Whole house rental of 2bd, 1ba cabin in Beautiful Gila Hot Springs, NM. Use this base for a jumping-off point for your Gila Wilderness or Gila Cliff Dwellings adventures. Cabin has full kitchen, internet, local phone, easy walk to Hot Springs.

The space

This unique location puts you away from it all. Use the space for a retreat, family vacation, or wilderness sabbatical. Easy access to the beautiful trails of the Gila Wilderness and the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. Not far off the paved road, the cabin is easy to get to, come in and relax on the oversized covered patio.

The main bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has a full size loft bed with a twin trundle bed. The living room couch pulls out into a bed also. The property has tent and rv space also, ask us about rates for groups larger than 6. There used to be cats in the house, but they are not there now.

The kitchen has a refrigerator, stove, oven, sink, and coffee maker (there's no microwave or dishwasher). Guests have left plenty of coffee filters, but we don't stock coffee. Make sure to bring anything you would want or need, but emergency supplies can be found at the nearby store, Doc Campbell's Post (very limited selection).

Horse facilities include one large pen with water and feeding troughs. Will hold up to 6 horses for short term.

Guest access

Horse facilities, wireless internet, local phone, full kitchen and bath, close walk to hot springs

Interaction with guests

Usually neither my husband Zack nor I are in the neighborhood while guests are in the house, it is possible you may meet him when you arrive. I am available by message or cell in Silver City, 90 minutes away, and we have many neighbors who are helpful in the event of an emergency.

Other things to note

I always ask every guest to confirm the location to make sure you understand how remote the cabin is. To see the exact location of the house and the village of Gila Hot Springs, look up "23 Airstrip Rd, Mimbres, NM" on geegle maps. (When you search for the village name you find out that geegle doesn't know everything). It is 90 minutes from Silver City and any services.

Unless you are requesting to stay for 3 or more weeks, please don't send a reservation request more than 3 months in advance. I probably don't yet know if I will want to use the house before then, and I do prefer to hold out for long-term rentals.

House Rules

We expect the house to be in excellent condition when you arrive and when you leave. We expect that you've cleaned up the dishes put books away that you've looked at. I shouldn't need to say this, but please don't steal the movies or books - use only while staying at the cabin! Please don't start laundry, it may be a day or two before we get up there and it will need to be re-washed by then; if you feel compelled, you can leave soiled linens in the laundry basket by the washer. (It's always appreciated to leave a tip for the cleaning crew.)

We allow well behaved dogs, but please note that the perimeter fencing of the property is for horses, not dogs. We ask that you toss into the forest any dog poop that may be in the visible yard around the house.

Please be respectful that this is a dry environment and fires can easily be started by an errant fire or cigarette ember. Make sure everything is put dead out. You can see the result of when a camper didn't drown their fire and the fire burned the river corridor not far upstream from Gila Hot Springs - SCARY! Refuse from smoking should be thrown away in the outside trash cans.

This is a great stay for exploring the area. The cliff dwellings are unbelievable and the hot springs, a short 10 min Walk are run by the awesome friendly Carla Campbell and her husband Alan. Carla is very knowledgeable of the area. There's a tv in the cabin, but I didn't even switch it on. There's a fantastic selection of books covering the local area, astronomy, astrology and even some original magazines from 1939!!!! Wow!! There are two local cats that come in via a flap at the side of the house. The black cat is very friendly and I was sad to say goodbye. Both are well house trained. The sky at night is knockout. Stock up in Silver city before the 31 mile drive up the mountain. There's a local store that stocks basic stuff. A campfire pit can be located outside near the wooden seats, perfect for late night campfire chats. There's a coffee maker, which has It's own, in built filter, so no need to buy paper filters. It's a beautiful area, and will leave a haunting, special, memorable impression on you.

This worked out great for us. We were visiting a friend who was a volunteer guide at gila cliff dwellings and who lived in a small trailer at the adjacent rv Park. She was used to eating simple meals in her spartan accommodations. We wanted to have her over for some more elaborately cooked meals and found the kitchen was well appointed for that purpose. Not only did it include a good assortment of pots, pans, dishes etc but also had a nice selection of spices, salt, pepper, sugar, aluminum foil, plastic bags, dish soap, paper towels, cooking oil, etc. We did not expect a washing machine but was glad to be able to use it (laundry detergent provided) My Wife and I don’t particularly like “roughing it” and found this as comfortable as home. FYI, We came in from the east off Interestate 25 and loaded up on food at the super walmart in truth or consequences, then went west on 152 through hillsborogh and up 35 through Membres (where we filled up on gas). Getting there was half the fun! A very scenic drive. Highly recommended !

We really enjoyed staying at Jamie's cabin. Sleeping in the outdoor bed each night and waking up to hummingbirds was very special. The layout of the cabin is open and interesting, we appreciated returning to it at the end of the day. We were also glad that it was so close to the Cliff Dwellings and other great hikes, being far from town made it all the better.

Jamie's place was a beautiful, scenic little gem. The cool mountain air the beautiful trees and wildflowers were just what we were craving for our weekend getaway. The porch was great. We relaxed on the outdoor bed and the kids read books on the hammock. The kitchen is well equipped and the space is beyond comfortable. The drive up is beautiful and we could not have asked for a better location for enjoying the trail up to the cliff dwellings and hot springs. I would recommend this place to anyone! We didn't want to leave and hope to return soon.

This place is lovely and deserves lovely guests, yall be cool. 10 minute drive to the Gila National Park Visitor Center from this coziest of houses, with best views and big kitchen. The outdoor living room worked much magic on us! Inside, there's a full kitchen, with cast-iron skillets and a legit griddle for pancaking. Felt private, though on a street with a few quiet neighbors, and RV park down the street. In addition to the bedrooms, there was a real, box-spring-and-everything bed with full linens outside that we slept on when we could - as one does in a pristine wilderness with hundreds of crickets singing you to sleep :)

This was an amazing experience. Jamie's home deep in the Gila allows you to truly unwind, relax, and be present. The surrounding wilderness allows for lots of activities - Gila River, Gila Cliff dwellings, hikes, and hot springs - but just hanging out in the home is entertaining enough. They've equipped the house with scores of wilderness books and map. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and want to come back for a longer period of time. It is quite a commitment to make it up through the winding roads to get there, so definitely try and stay for more than 2 nights if you can!
