Our place, Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch, is located at beautiful McElmo Canyon west of Cortez with McElmo Creek running through it. It is a working ranch where we aim to establish a more self-sufficient lifestyle. We grow organic vegetables during summer, raise grass-fed beef & lamb as well as free-range chicken eggs. With 5 luxurious guest houses we hope to provide our guests a place to experience the beauty of the nature, simplicity of life and the magic of the ancient world.

Our guest ranch offers a variety of unique lodging options, each with its own charm and connection to the region’s rich cultural heritage. Guests can enjoy unparalleled access to hiking, stargazing, and exploring the nearby Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and Mesa Verde National Park.

Immerse yourself in our vibrant ranch life by interacting with our beloved animals, including Diego the Texas Longhorn, Mickey the Cow, our sheep herd led by Quasi and the Incredibles, and our friendly dogs Boris Gump, Bessie, and Dolores, not to mention our charming cats, Bear Bear and Rascal.

Whether you’re seeking a peaceful getaway or an adventurous exploration, our ranch provides a unique blend of history, nature, comfort, and hands-on animal experiences. Guest access
Guests are invited to explore the expansive beauty of our 1,800-acre ranch, featuring 60 acres of lush, irrigated pastures and trails that meander along McElmo Creek as well as "Ming’s Tower". Discover ancient ruins on the Sky Village side of the ranch and immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the area. We kindly ask guests to respect the privacy and spaces of others staying at the ranch.

We are here to make your stay at Canyon of the Ancients Guest Ranch as enjoyable as possible. Guests can reach us anytime via phone, text, or email with any questions or needs.

We are also delighted to offer personalized tours of the ranch, where you can meet and learn about the ranch and our animals. Don’t hesitate to reach out—we love to connect with our guests and enrich your experience on the ranch!

Other things to note
We are 30 minutes west of town and there are no amenities such as grocery stores or gas stations. Guests should plan to get necessities before arriving at the ranch.

Here's a few other things to note for business travelers:

- We have satellite internet throughout the ranch and it has pretty decent speeds. If you are a business traveler that needs consistent speeds for video conferencing, please let us know ahead of time so we can prioritize your internet experience.
- Cell coverage can be spotty, especially with T-Mobile. If you need a stronger signal, a cell booster can be provided.
- We have a color laser printer/copier available at “Rascal’s Hideout” on the main part of the ranch.

We are close to Four Corners, Bears Ears, Monument Valley, Mesa Verde National Park, Telluride ....etc. A lot hiking, biking trails around, great places for horse back riding and wondering.
