Escape to our charming 700 sq. ft. mountain retreat overlooking Jacks Mountain Preserve - an old golf course turned nature preserve. The space
The Perch is located on our 2.5 acre property, directly behind our home. Our property overlooks an old golf course, turned nature preserve and has year-round mountain views and magnificent night skies.
The home is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom space with a full kitchen, living room with a queen-sized pullout sleeper couch, a dining area, work area, and laundry room. The entire space is about 700 sq. feet. There are two porches - one overlooking the pool and mountains and another looking toward the fire pit and nearly 500 acres of undeveloped forest.
Each room has a 32 inch TV - sign into your own streaming services or ask us for our guest login (if not already signed in)
The space is heated and cooled via mini split. We also provide a wall mounted ventless propane heater and wall mounted space heater for additional heat during the colder months.
In addition to the firepit, we offer a charcoal grill, a tandem kayak, a single kayak, a canoe and the pool is available for use in the on-season. We do use the pool ourselves as it is shared with us and occasionally it will be used by other guests of ours. We make sure to give you and your guests plenty of pool privacy and will communicate in advance if it's being utilized for an extended period of time during your stay. If you prefer to have un-shared access to the pool without communication or coordination with us for any reason, you can "reserve" the pool for full, exclusive use during your stay for an additional fee. Our pool includes a tiki bar, which features a fridge, TV, grill, music system and outdoor bathroom.

Guests may use the hot tub. Note that it is very close to our house, not the rental (like the pool.) We will 100% respect your privacy when you are using the hot tub.

- 8 minutes to Foothills Watershed, a 117-acre riverside hangout and bike park at the headwaters of the Catawba River with excellent barbecue
- 10 minutes to the Gateway trail system or Catawba Falls trailhead
- 35 minutes to Lake James
- 45 minutes to Linville Gorge, the Grand Canyon of the East
Guest access
The entire rental space is yours to utilize as well as both the front and back yard. We do utilize the yard between the rental and the pool. The pool space is also available for guests during the on-season. Guests may use the hot tub, but please note that it is very close to our house.
Guests will access the rental via a lock-box, where they will have to enter a code provided the morning of booking. They will enter the code to access the physical key.
There is space for 2 vehicles. If you need more than that, please reach out in advance of your stay.
Other things to note
- The pool is available for use in the on-season. We do use the pool ourselves and occasionally have other guests of ours that use it too. We make sure to give you and your family your space with the pool as much as possible so that you're able to enjoy it as much as you like, and we never mind inviting our guests to swim with us! We just ask that we stay in communication about swimming during your stay so that we can be mindful of giving you and your group your space. If you prefer to have un-shared access to the pool without communication or coordination with us for any reason, you can "reserve" the pool for full, exclusive use during your stay for an additional fee of $100/day.
- Guests may use the hot tub. We do use it ourselves also, and it is very close to our house. We will 100% respect your privacy when it's in use!
- You will need to transport the canoes and kayaks yourselves. With advanced notice and an additional fee, we may be able to provide transport of the boats for you.
- The home is up a somewhat steep gravel drive. We have never had a guest unable to make it, but please note that it is gravel and there is a brief incline.
- The rental is heated and cooled by mini-splits. There is an added ventless propane heater for additional heat.
- While we do allow pets in the rental, we do have 2 dogs of our own and there is also an extremely friendly outdoor cat that lives on the property. We require your pets to be leashed when not in the rental.
- Please make sure that every guest staying the night (including pets) is included in the reservation. There are external cameras that are checked for this reason, so there will be a charge of $100 per unregistered guest or pet. Friends and family are welcome to visit. If possible, please do let us know beforehand.
- Extra guests and visitors not on the reservation are not permitted to use the pool or hot tub unless otherwise discussed and planned for.
- All products used in our rental (cleaning supplies, soaps, detergents, provided hygiene products, etc.) are chemical free and organic.
- Please make sure you review our cancelation policy prior to booking. We strongly encourage purchasing trip insurance, as we follow our policies very closely.
