"This is a new Airbnb Space but please read bellow what others have experienced while staying with us"

"Everything was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we were picked up at the airport we were treated like "family". Such a pleasure to meet her as she offered such kindness and great hospitality immediately. Great first impression! The apartment was even beyond our expectations. And being offered the car for our use was an added bonus. A car is definitely necessary to get around to properly see this beautiful paradise of Sao Miguel, Azores. The house offered all the amenities we required and the view was spectacular. We were easily able to walk into town for dinner or for a walk around. Thanks once again to the owner for helping make our stay a very memorable experience. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone and we hope to return some day soon."

"O alojamento cumpriu em pleno as expectativas. Uma localização privilegiada, um apartamento praticamente novo e com todas as comodidades necessárias e, mais importante ainda, uma excelente recepção por parte do proprietário que se dispôs a facultar tudo o que fosse necessário e a servir de facilitador durante o período da estadia. Aconselho."

"Had a lovely stay at this rental property. Modern, clean, comfortable and close to all amenities. Nice central city location, quiet at night. Maria, our host, went above and beyond, collecting us from the airport, ensuring we were comfortable and providing us with anything we could possibly need. Would recommend to anyone looking for accomodation in Ponta Delgada!!"

"Très bonne adresse pour un séjour à Punta Delgada et Sao Miguel en général . Les propriètaires sont très sympathiques et très serviables ."

"Situation intéressante pour visiter l''ouest de sao miguel et ponta delgada. appartement propre, clair et confortable. Endroit calme proche du centre ville. séjour très agréable. Propriétaire très accueillante. elle est venue nous chercher et nous ramener à l''aéroport"

"We spent 4 nice days and nights in Ponta Delgada this July. The apartments seemed to be clean and comfortable in a very good location not far from the center but there were no any kind of noise. We liked it very much. We'd like to recommend this apartments for everyone both couples and families"

"Excellent, rien à redire ! Appartement tout neuf et bien placé. La propriétaire est charmante, parle le français et est même venue me chercher à l''aéroport. Parfait pour un séjour en couple (grand lit), voire même avec un enfant (canapé pliant dans le séjour). Je recommande vivement !"

"Amazing location with fantastic views of the city and towards the sea. Balcony was a lovely bonus. Only a 10-15 min walk to the harbour (leisurely walk). We rented a car and had use of the garage to park which was great. Lovely hospitality, although maybe we should have learnt some Portuguese to make it easier. Amenities is a 4 because we had to get washing up stuff and some matches to work the cooker (although we only used this once! As eating out for the lovely Azorean food is a must!). A nice coffee/hot chocolate and a pastry is really cheap compared to London! So this was frequent for us! Recommend going to eat the food cooked underground, visit the calderas, the springs, Terra Nostra garden is wonderful, and the waterfall. Amazing holiday. Went on a whale watching trip but only saw dolphins which was the only downside of the holiday. The main pavilion is on the nice side of busy in Ponta Delgada. So much to do, so little time. 2 weeks would have been better in order to explore the other islands. Will definitely go back to the Azorean paradise!!! Very much a lovely apartment to come back to, although you won't be in the apartment much as you will be out and about a lot!"

Probably one of the best starting points in Ponta Delgada for your trips in the city and over the island. All you have to bring along is your suitcase. Very nice views of the city, the harbour and the mountains. Everything you need is there: Fridge with freezer, fully equipped kitchen with balkony, very nice double bedroom, living room with extendable sofa and little terrace, sat-tv, elevator leading to the garage for your car. The owners, Maria and João P. are extremely nice and attentive, perfect communication in English and French. They have a solution to every problem you might have, car hiring included. We had a great time there. We came as guests and left as friends. "

This apartment was very clean and in a great location considering we were staying during the festival. Maria was very accommodating for our flight was delayed by over 24 hours so we needed to book an extra day. There were towels for furnas, and some fruit in the fridge for us. Best of all there was private parking in the parking garage so we didn't have to worry about finding parking during the busy weekend.

Azores ranked # 1, All QualityCoast certified destinations in the world’s first green destinations Top 100

For the first time, a Sustainable Destinations Global Top 100 is launched to celebrate the management efforts of the most sustainable destinations on Earth. The list is the result of open calls in the social media, followed by a selection by 30 international tourism sustainability experts.

“The Global Top 100 aims to recognise tourism destinations that have worked hard to make a difference and take sustainability seriously”, says director Albert Salman of GreenDestinations, info. “Nevertheless, no destination is sustainable for the full 100%.” This is why the Top 100 present ratings of overall destination sustainability according to the only available global assessment tool for this purpose: the Global Sustainable Tourism Review, GSTR.”

The destination to be considered most sustainable overall is the Portuguese Azores archipelago, because it has the highest global sustainability score by GSTR: 8.9/10. The number of selected destinations for each continent reflects the relative size of international tourism to that continent.

The Azores: first platinum sustainable destination
The Azores archipelago has become the first destination to be awarded a Platinum Quality Coast Award in recognition of its high quality coastline and number of sustainable tourism programmes. Only about 5% of the nine volcanic islands are classified as ‘urbanised’ and were also certified as a UNESCO European Geopark in 2013.

"Not a beach destination or otherwise susceptible to mass tourism; indeed, its capricious climate probably impedes the flow of tourists. The islands' green volcanic mountains and picturesque black-and-white towns look set to remain unspoiled."
////////////// NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER

"Wonderful place. Built environment in good shape. Locals are very sophisticated as most have lived overseas."
////////////// NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER

"Remote and temperate, the Azores remain lightly touristed. Main visitor type is the independent traveler staying in B&Bs. The ecosystem—from the beautiful hydrangea-covered hills of Flores to the rock-bottomed bays of Terceira—is in great shape. Whales still a frequent sight. Local culture strong and vibrant. Not uncommon to be invited to a person's house for dinner, or welcomed into a communal meal during a festival."
////////////// NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELLER

"As always, it is the getting there that counts. The more rugged the journey, the more secure the memory of it against the ravages of time - and the deeper the awareness of where you have arrived...."
////////////// THE NEW YORK TIMES TRAVEL - Escape to the Azores by Robert D. Kaplan

"Evidence of the Azores' volcanic legacy is everywhere. Black honeycombed lava stone is the common denominator of all dwellings, from Baroque churches and manor houses to the humblest cottage. The natural beauty bequeathed by volcanic fury is even more noticeable. Lava-rich soil nourishes a patchwork of camellias, lilies, ferns, azaleas and hydrangeas, zig-zagged with lava rock walls. Sao Miguel's Lagoa do Fogo (lake of fire) was formed at the bottom of an eroded volcano. The place is so tranquil that at first it didn't occur to me to follow a path down the lake's mossy sides to enjoy the profane pleasures of swimming in its turquoise waters.... "
////////////// THE NEW YORK TIMES TRAVEL- Splendid Isolation In the Azores- By Barbara Paulson

The Azores are “sunny, beautiful and safe but Portugal doesn’t seem to know what to do with them,” writes Andrew Mueller, referring to the nine islands as the “most undervalued, under-exploited asset in the world.”
////////////// MONOCLE MAGAZINE (ISSUE 57) Waiting in the Isles by Andrew Mueller

"...Like that island of rain and smiles, the landscapes of the Azores are abundantly green - but with added exoticism. The islanders appear to have raided every passing vessel for seeds and cuttings, and one of the joys of pottering around in a hire car is coming across parks, viewpoints and roadside verges that are exploding with flowers. The spikey orange blooms of wild ginger, originally from the Himalayas, are particularly noticeable, and where we have fields bordered with hedgerows, local farmers go in for lines of blue and white hydrangeas that in summer turn the islands into a vast floral garden...."
////////////// THE TELEGRAPH /TRAVEL, The Azores: Europe begins here by Nigel Tisdall.

"A four-hour direct flight from Boston brings you to this string of volcanic islands, and transports you to an altogether other world."
"At the end of my first day on Sao Miguel, after racing to glimpse half a dozen of the island’s spectacular mountains, lakes, and beaches before a helmet of fog settled down over them, I came across an arresting sight. In Mosteiros, a small village of red-roofed, whitewashed houses on the island’s northwestern corner, the mauve sunset collided with the blue ocean to frame a set of rock formations standing sentinel just offshore. It looked a bit like a Stonehenge of the sea. In every guidebook for the Azores — a string of nine volcanic islands sitting in the wide-open Atlantic between New England and Western Europe — there is a checklist of not-to-miss sights. It’s a testament to the bounty of Azorean beauty that on the lists I had consulted, this gorgeous scene in Mosteiros was nowhere to be found."
"The Azores just might be the most interesting destination you’ve either never heard of or never seriously considered. It’s something of a mystery why more New Englanders don’t visit the archipelago, which functions as an autonomous region of Portugal. It’s not because of inconvenience. Boston is the only American city offering year-round nonstop flights to Sao Miguel, whose population of nearly 140,000 exceeds the combined total inhabitants of the eight other islands. And the flight there takes only about four hours."
////////////// THE BOSTON GLOBE MAGAZINE - Azores, a perfect destination for Boston travelers By Neil Swidey

And the Award for Platinum Quality Coast, 2014-2015 goes to the Portuguese archipelago of nine islands – Azores. The award from Quality Coast, the largest certification programme in the world, identifies destinations that standout in regard to sustainable tourism. This is the first time such an award is being presented.
By achieving the award, Azores has maintained its impressive track record for sustainable tourism destinations. For 2013-2014, the archipelago was named No.1 sustainable tourism destination by Quality Coast. Located in the centre of the North Atlantic the Azores achieved high scores in every sector. These included coastal areas, nature, clean water, marine life, hotels, community/identity, landscape, blue flags, environment, culture, and socio-economic factors.
A panel consisting of renowned marine and coastal management specialists was charged with identifying the islands that exhibited the highest standards. Following their unanimous decision, this year the Azores emerged the winner for the second time in two years. It beat a field that consisted of more than 1,000 island and coastal destinations cementing its position at the helm. This is quite impressive considering it became part of the programme in 2009.
The urbanized region in Azores accounts for only 5% of the total land. The main industries in the archipelago are dairy farming, agriculture, fishing, livestock ranching, and tourism. Concerted efforts are made to ensure renewable energy is adopted. Success is achieved by emphasizing the importance of protecting the environment. This is done through schooling programs, increasing the protected areas and also better regulation.
Due to the sparse development and urbanization, the volcanic archipelago has many natural heritage sites such as the UNESCO Biosphere reserve. The island is also home to a rich marine eco-system that is also protected. Common animals include pelagic fish, dolphins, marine turtles, sperm whales, great whales, cold water corals and birds. In 2013, UNESCO certified the archipelago as a European Geopark that offers well-regulated snorkeling, cycling trails, scuba-diving, 33 Blue Flag beaches, and hiking.

About two hours flying time from the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, lies a nine-island archipelago which amazes its visitors with striking natural scenery and marine life. The Azores, discovered in 1427, are of volcanic origin and, lacking in white sandy beaches, they are not a typical holiday resort.

Many visitors come to admire the strange volcanic formations with blue lakes inside the craters, volcanic caves, sheer black cliffs and rugged mountains. Legend has it that the islands are the tips of the highest mountains of the mythological Atlantis. Those who are interested in strange geological formations should visit the caves at Algar do Carvao on Terceira Island.

When visiting the Azores, visitors can play golf on the largest of the islands – San Miguel. One of the best ways to explore the island is by means of the local Jeep Safari. English speaking drivers take you on a tour around the west side of the island.

However, the number one tourist attraction in the Azores is whale and dolphin watching. Nearly twenty species of whales have been identified in the seas around here and there are also opportunities to swim with dolphins. Daily trips are available, with boats departing from the island of Pico and Faial.

Scuba diving possibilities are vast and those visitors who are fond of fishing can depart from Ponta Delgada on San Miguel with the “Rabao” crew and spend a day fishing out in the ocean.
