Basement room in our family home (yes, we live here). Watch your step as you enter gated side yard. One bedroom w/access to bathroom, laundry & common area. Walk to nearby Bitter Lake, Interurban Trail & COVID testing. Hop a bus for 20-min trip downtown. Our friendly dog & cat love to visit, if you like. Stay cool in summer/warm--fan, air cleaner, space heater available (A/C upstairs). We make normal life noises & tend to be night owls. No smoking/fragrance. *Please read all info before booking!

The space
Your clean, separate space on the lower level comes with its own entrance and a secure keypad for access anytime. Watch your head (esp. if you're taller than 5-8 or so) as you come down a short flight of stairs to the central area, with a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and freezer space. It is a basement space, so you may hear the occasional noises from upstairs. Down here, access one of two bedrooms and shared spaces like the bathroom, the laundry room, and a central open area. The bedroom includes an adjustable double bed with a warm quilt or cool summer blankets. There's a writing desk and windows. Open the vent for heat or turn on the space heater. We also have a TV/Wii available to set up upon request. We've carefully selected older wooden furniture and art (while trying to minimize clutter) and would love to hear your feedback. No kitchen, but you'll have access to a minifridge, freezer (partial), utility sink with hot and cold running water, hot pot & coffeemaker. Please plan to bring your own food. The bathroom is for guest use only but "semi-private." The kitchen is off-limits (& upstairs) but we sometimes share a goodie like fresh berries from the farmers market. The bathroom is supplied with clean towels and unscented toiletries - Please do NOT use strong scents as we have allergies (and strong fragrances do tend to waft upward). If you're a cat lover, our extra large & fluffy cat will want to visit. You may get to meet our smart & energetic doggy as you head in/out and you may hear him overhead as well (both creatures like to chase balls). The pets generally get along well with everyone, but please check first if you're bringing your own fuzzy buddy or if you'd like an introduction to our dog. Welcome!

Where you’ll be

Seattle, Washington, United States

Great coffee within walking distance includes Bridge Coffee, Diva, and Starbucks. Great food at our neighborhood establishments including the 125th Street Grill (walking distance), the Rain Cafe near the Asian stores/mini mall at 132nd, and Jersey's sports bar (great food!) in nearby Shoreline. Two grocery stores -- an Asian Grocery and Sprouts -- are within walking distance. Toward Greenwood, look for some of the best Sushi around at a small family-run place called Kiriba (also walking distance). We welcome deliveries - for example, from Pagliacci or Jimmy John's sandwiches. We regularly get groceries delivered too from various places. including farm co-ops. Northgate Mall is nearby (7-min. by car) but undergoing renovations. Still open amenities include some restaurants on the south end, like the Jewelbox Cafe. We're walking distance from a free COVID testing center on Aurora Ave. N. and also very close to UW/NW Hospital's North Seattle campus (on 115th). Also, visit some of the area's most beautiful parks, like Seattle's Carkeek and Shoreline's Richmond Beach State Park or Hamlin Park on the NE side. (Please see "Getting Around" and our guidebook for more info on parks and restaurants.)

During your stay

We follow all local rules/laws (city & state). That said, we're happy to visit a bit -- we've all been vaccinated here and hope you are too. Meanwhile, we're happy to keep wearing masks and staying a ways apart when inside. Or, we're happy to keep our distance altogether -- let us know, it's your call. We're all introverts here but we like to chat now & then. The room is yours and completely private, while the rest of the space is semi-private (separate from us but we have another tenant in another room). If you prefer, we can communicate through messaging (let us know). Or just knock on the front/upstair door to say hi. Your bedroom is in our finished basement, which has been called "cozy." It's also clean and furnished with older wood furniture and select art -- like a place we'd like to stay. It stays cool in the summer. Our pets are super friendly: You may meet our dog whenever you come and go. And our cat is likely to check you out on arrival and stay for the cuddles if you're a "cat person." If you like being outside, our garden is lovely almost anytime of year: We have tons of fruit and flowers, from spring through early fall, but please watch your step! In the winter, we enjoy sitting out on the patio or gardening in the greenhouse. If you want to go out, our home is convenient for accessing local parks, businesses, and shopping. One of us is a teacher and the other is a writer, so we're good at offering support and we can likely answer most of your questions and help you find whatever. Our guidebook includes our favorite places to eat and hang out, even in pandemic times.
