Nestled in the wooded hillsides of the George Washington National Forest, High View Hideaway provides a serene retreat from the stresses of urban life and is the perfect base to enjoy all the Lost River area has to offer from hiking and fishing to cycling and more.

Completely refreshed in 2019, this cozy cabin offers a large queen bedroom and full bath, as well as an open living/dining area, updated kitchen, large deck, and screened-in porch perfect for taking in nature's sights and sounds.

The space
The Space
High View Hideaway boasts a well-equipped open plan kitchen and living/dining area that leads out onto a large deck nestled among the treetops and a screened-in porch, perfect for morning coffee or sunset drinks. The wood burning stove offers additional charm, as well as an excellent source of heat on chilly nights.

The bedroom features vaulted ceilings, a queen bed, and cozy reading nook along with a large walk-in closet with hand-made shelving that provides generous storage space for all your getaway garb.

The completely refreshed bathroom offers vintage touches blended with a newly tiled walk-in shower where you can enjoy a steamy shower with our energy-efficient on-demand water heater.

The living area is the perfect place to cuddle up with a book, play a game, or watch a movie on our large-screen HD TV; also provides additional sleeping space with a full size, pull-out sleeper sofa.

While The Hideaway is a the perfect place to fully unplug and unwind, we understand the pressures of modern day may require a connection to the outside world so we’ve wired the cabin with fiber optic high-speed internet and wi-fi access, as well as a large screen TV with Amazon Fire TV so you can catch your favorite movie, sporting event, or television series.

The cabin sits on 4 acres of wooded hillside grounds frequented by all forms of wildlife. It’s not uncommon to wake up to deer peering through the bedroom window or enjoying a midday snack among the lush greenery.

Guest Access
While we get away to The High View Hideaway whenever our schedules allows, the cabin will be all yours during your time there.

Other Things to Note
The premise is equipped with an exterior Nest camera facing the drive up to the cabin. It is used for security purposes only and monitored only when the property is vacant.

Where you’ll be

Lost City, West Virginia, United States

Within easy reach of High View Hideaway are a wide array of trails that offer both gentle walks and serious hikes through the wilds and wonder of the George Washington National Forest and neighboring Lost River State Park. A popular spot is Trout Pond recreation area, a short 5-minute drive away, and offers scenic walking trails, canoeing, fishing, and swimming (in warmer months). A slightly farther trek (25-minute drive) will bring you to Lost River State Park, a great spot for both the young and old(er) adventurists to enjoy.

The nearby town of Wardensville offers several shopping and dining options. Make a stop at the Lost River Trading Post to stock up on craft brews and local wine, and peruse their impressive selection of local products and amazingly curated antiques and curios. On the weekend, pay a visit the Garden Market and Bakery to enjoy some of their farm-fresh produce and delicious baked goods. (Our favorite is the Cowboy Cookie!) Pop into Ripples in Time, a precious little antique shop, to hunt some their hidden treasures.

The quaint village of Lost River (10-minute drive from the cabin) offers a few dining and shopping options, as well. Enjoy local produce, ice cream, and gifts at the Lost River General Store or grab a bite to eat at the Lost River Grill. And if you seeking a relaxation and wellness experience, book a session at the Lost River Yoga Studio.

The popular Guesthouse Kitchen & Bar just outside Lost River (8-minute drive from cabin) is a great spot to enjoy a lovely meal after a long day out adventuring. This locally-owned and operated staple of Lost River establishment offers farmhouse style, American inspired dishes, and libations in a comfortable modern farmhouse setting. Highly recommend booking in advance.

A bit further a far from Wardensville and the Lost River Valley, there are a range of activities including hiking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, and seasonal skiing to enjoy.

My wife Cynthia and I are young(ish) professionals that have spent over a decade living and working overseas. I am a global health professional, working with emerging market public health programs. We've been to around 75 countries between the two of us, so we know what it takes to be comfortable away from home. We love travel, music, food and wine, and meeting people from all over the globe. We just bought this beautiful house in one of DC's most exciting and fast-growing neighborhoods. Although we've done some work on the house, we've worked to maintain all the original flare such a historic gem deserves.
