Visits :
The Caen Memorial
Conservatory for Peace and Museum on the Second World War, the Caen Memorial takes you through the whirlwind of history to understand how the conflict forever marked Calvados, Normandy and the whole world. A major site, a necessary introduction for anyone who wants to explore the landing beaches.

The Abbey of Men - Caen
This is what Guillaume Le Conqueror cost his marriage to Mathilde de Flandres, his distant cousin. In 1063, the Duke of Normandy founded this Abbey of Men, where his tomb now houses his femur, the ultimate relic ! 950 years later, crossing the immense white nave, you will take all the measure of the epic of the one who was king of England.

The American Cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer
An Olympic framework for the rest of heroes. Overlooking the immense beach of Omaha Beach, the American cemetery of Normandy houses the graves of 9,387 American soldiers who fell during the Battle of Normandy. How emotional it is to see these white marble steles lined up as far as the eye can see on the lawn mat, or by attending the daily ceremony of colors.

The Old Basin of Honfleur
There is no shortage of colours, this city that has impressed Impressionist painters so much! It's hard not to capsize for these tall, open houses that surround its Old Basin, or for one of its historic buildings that have seen so many centuries pass by. Stroll through the Garden of Personalities, and push to the Church of Our Lady of Grace for a stunning view of Honfleur.

Lisieux Basilica
Elevated on a hill overlooking Lisieux, the imposing basilica lives up to the fervour of Saint Teresa, to whom she pays tribute. Second place of pilgrimage in France after Lourdes, the site attracts from around the world, and surprises by its composite style. Often compared to the Sacred Heart of Paris, it is one of the largest churches built in the 20th century.

The medieval city of Bayeux
From cobbled streets to ancient half-timbered houses, chic mansions to the meanders of the Aure that crosses it, Bayeux knows how to charm his world. A city of culture and history, it is world-renowned for its cathedral, an architectural jewel, and its 11th-century tapestry inscribed in UNESCO's « Memory of the World" register: 70 metres from the world's oldest comic strip!

Deauville Boards
It is a walk 643 meters long and 7 meters wide, where the celebrities of the American Film Festival of Deauville wander in September, and the rest of the time lovers from all over the world… The Planks of Deauville, composed of exotic wood that could not be worn, allowed the ladies to walk on the long beach of fine sand, right there, without soiling their dresses.

Les Rochers de la Houle, in Normandy
Switzerland Get some height in Normandy Switzerland. The village of Saint-Omer is a hotspot for nature sports (paragliding, hang-gliding, climbing, kayaking, hiking...) and a must-see stop on the well-known route des Crêtes, where you can admire the geological formations of the Rocks of the Houle. Magnificent views of the Norman Mountains and Clécy Valley, labeled Calvados Character Village.

Le Château de Falaise
The birthplace of William the Conqueror, cradle of the Anglo-Norman dynasty, is revived today thanks to the touch tablets distributed on the spot: they reproduce the strengths and colors present at the time in the various rooms of the majestic medieval building. A fantastic journey back in time, where the characters who lived the story tell it to you.

The fishing port of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain
Port-en-Bessin-Huppain is alive to the rhythm of the ballet of the boats returning to the port, the well-oiled choreography of the cases of scallops and other fish unloaded on the docks. Next door, the auction invites you to enjoy its delicious hustle and bustle. Finally, climb the few steps that separate you from the Vauban Tower, for a complete picture of this traditional port nestled between two imposing cliffs.

Museum and archaeological sites Old Roman
From Gallo-Roman remains to the gates of Caen ! Discover the excavations of the forum, the villas and the garden… Calvados is also a land of archaeology.

Paleospace Odyssey, Villers sur Mer, dinosaur: jump back 160 million years !
Go back to the history of Normandy to the time of the dinosaurs ; palaeontology will no longer be a secret for you after visiting the Palaeospace.

Musée Eugène Boudin Calvados Tourism: make yourself an Impressionist canvas
Discover the works of Eugène Boudin, great painter of Impressionism in Normandy

Where you’ll be

Caen, Normandie, France

Parking is free but limited to 1 hour at the foot of the building. Squares in the surrounding streets are free.

The apartment is in the heart of the historic district, near the church of St Etienne (tomb of William the Conqueror) and the abbey to men (town hall of Caen). The Abbaye-aux-Hommes comprises: the abbey of Saint-Etienne (11th, 13th, 17th centuries) housing the tomb of William the Conqueror, the convent buildings (18th century), now the Town Hall, the cloister and the Guard Hall (14th century), former ceremonial hall and current hall of the municipal council A few meters further, you will find St Saviour's Square (recently completely restored) where the market is held on Friday mornings. From this square located in the city center, you have access to all the shops and services of Caen. You will also find many small restaurants typical of old Caen directly down the street where the apartment is located. Place des petits butcheries: Place des petits butcheries is the crossroads of four important roads: Rue Caponière (to the south), Rue de Bayeux and Rue St Martin (the latter two follow the route of the old Roman road linking the suburb of St Julien to Bayeux), and Rue Guillaume-le-Conquérant. Before the town planning operations carried out in the 18th century, the only access to the Bourg-le-Roi from this square (and from the west of the city in general) was via rue St Martin, then via the porte St Martin (see marking at the top of rue Pémagnie)

You will find all the shops nearby (beginner, grocer, butcher...) offering very good products.
The biggest market in Caen is held on Sunday morning in Place Courtonne.
The location is ideal to discover and enjoy Caen.
