The space
Cartws Bach is a beautifully converted 18th century carthouse part of a farmyard on a quiet country lane near the north Pembrokeshire village of Eglwyswrw. Full of character with exposed original beams and sloping ceilings, this pretty cottage is delightfully welcoming.

Sympathetically restored to conservation standards with a simple yet elegant feel, it is attached to a 100 foot granary barn where we live too (so we can look after you if you need us!). The barn (The Granary) and cottage form one side of the courtyard at the old farm of Bwlch Garregllwyd. Cartws Bach is south facing (with its own very fruitful fig tree!) and looks out into its own little garden for quiet relaxation. Please be quiet in the front garden areas and no music or radio outside thank you as noise travels easily in the courtyard to neighbouring properties. This will only suit you if you don't mind being quiet outside.

Conveniently situated near the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Cardigan Bay, the main bus route is only two minutes’ walk, and the coastal towns of Cardigan and Newport are only 7 minutes’ drive.

Accommodation
Wooden painted stairs lead up from the living room/kitchen to the SLEEPING AREA with one double bed in a curtained nook and one twin sleeping area with extremely comfortable organic cotton mattresses.
The upstairs room is cleverly divided by a rustic wood-panelled byre - giving two distinct sleeping areas with their own character - the double bed in a dark wooded area and the two singles in a cheerfully painted cabin room. No doors, but with curtains for privacy. The bathroom has a door!

*Both rooms look up to the original beamed roof. The 'rooms' are open divided by a wooden 7 foot partition. As a result, there is a compromise on privacy from a noise perspective. This arrangement may not suit you.

The bathroom has a good shower within a 3/4 sized bath, wash basin, toilet and mosaic tiling. The water is solar or wood-burner heated with eco-electric back up. YOU MAY NEED TO WAIT FOR WATER TO HEAT UP, it is not a central heating system that you may be used to. The water heater is set on a timer set to heat up twice a day. It will heat up itself if the sun is out, or if you have the woodburner on. If you have run all the water out, you will need to wait for it to warm up again.

On the ground floor, the open plan kitchen/living area looks out through the distinctive carthouse archway into the garden giving a lovely open feel to the room. Fully equipped kitchen with Belfast sink and slate worktops, a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge. Fireplace shelves hold a well stocked and eclectic book collection for all ages and a great film selection of DVDs can be watched through a TV although there is no aerial or satellite. Tea coffee, teatowels, salt, pepper herbal teas etc all provided.

Hemp, lime and clay paint give the walls an organic character, the wooden and slate floor a traditional feel, with beams and a woodburner adding to the atmosphere.

Outside
The property is set in 3 acres with lawns, vegetable gardens, woods, flower meadow and pond. Our grassy track leads down to a green lane (ancient bridleway) which in turn will lead you to many footpaths and tracks to explore. Off road parking for two cars. The cottage setting is in an old farm courtyard, with adjacent private residential properties in the house and other barn. It is very peaceful and has a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.

Guest access
The cottage has its own entrance and front garden, and visitors have complete freedom to wander round the back, down the track through the 3 acres of wildflower fields and newly planted forest garden. There is a stream and an overgrown wildlife haven of a pond, wild woods and a track down to a green lane, great for country walks. If you'd like a fire out the back just ask. Due to previous noisy guests we ask that you are quiet in the front garden so as not to disturb the neighbours. Thank you. You may meet guests from the Studio whihc is also rented out to visitors.

Other things to note
This is a quiet spot. We like that. We appreciate guests keeping noise down in front garden and vacate the front garden at 9pm.
The properties to either side of us do not belong to us. Please help us by being quiet in outside areas. We own this barn building and all the land directly behind it. It has taken us 10 years to convert the derelict barn into our home and nature reserve.

Parking is at the front of the two storey barn under the red widows - pull right up to the barn - go through the laurel hedge, keeping to the right.

Wellies are recommended for round the back, basically it is a farmyard and farm track and the track can get muddy. We want you to explore and enjoy the space, we are happy to share the space with our guests. Hens eggs when available.

***Art House Eco Barn Studio*** adjoins the cottage and is also available to rent It sleeps 4 in 2 rooms with a veranda and woodburner overlooking the back garden. You may meet gusts from the studio in the back garden.

Badminton on the back lawn in the summer. BBQ available on request.

Neighbourhood highlights

Our location is so convenient. Although we are tucked down a really idyllic little country lane (bursting with flowers in the spring and early summer) the main road isn't far away so getting in to Cardigan or Newport couldn't be easier - 10 mins and you are at shops / wine / the beach / the cinema etc.

Hello! Cartws Bach and ArtHouse Barn Studio are zero carbon eco-friendly holiday cottages- created from a derelict barn- which we have created and lived in starting off in a £500 caravan for 4 years in 2007. We have not taken a home from local people to provide your holiday home so that feels good. We welcome all people from all backgrounds here - and will help you in any way we can to ensure you have a relaxing and happy time here. We live here too so are on hand if you need anything, but we won’t disturb you. Mick is a retired builder now he has finished the barn he is now "The Gardener" spending his time working in the garden and grounds and tending his forest garden. I work for the Mindfulness Association and am a designer/map illustrator (My Cardigan maps are up around the town) and also a community workshop leader-(giant knitted Cardigan of Cardigan in Stiwdio 3 on the High Street in Cardigan. Www.ArtHouse graphics.co.uk We love nature, aesthetics and a peaceful, simple life. We are relaxed and want visitors to share what we have here and enjoy the relaxed space, peace and nature. Now we have finished all the building work; both Cartws Bach and the Art House Studio are available to rent. Our attention has now moved onto the gardens and are looking forward to all the little garden details we can add to the grounds to create a space where people can relax and take time for contemplation. We positively welcome any feedback as we really want this place to be the best it can be for all our guests. We love having you to stay and are always on hand to help you if you need to talk about where to explore or go to eat. We have a shaggy dog Dusty (he's a bit odd) and teabag the cat who was described in one review as " the nicest cat I've ever met" haha he seems to have become a bit of a hero- he will want to visit you. Our neighbours are sensitive to noise - it's a quiet place, please respect the quiet nature of the property. The accommodation is eco friendly - the products we leave for you are bought from cooperative company SUMA and are as much as possible environmentally friendly. That's important to us.
