One of 2 Black Dog Cottage rooms available, The Mollie Room has a comfy queen bed, TV with Netflix and lots of cable stations, table for working or reading, big leather chair, and lots of room. Private bath. Our bird-filled yard is a National Wildlife Federation backyard habitat. We're in historic Ardmore, near a park with walking and running paths and tennis courts, and within minutes of I-40, two hospitals, and lots of shopping. Minutes from downtown. Safe parking inside our gated property.

The space

A cozy getaway in the heart of town. Minutes from the center of town, we're right off both 1-40s, and near shopping malls and two hospitals. You’ll feel at home in our home in the Ardmore Historic District.

If you like dogs, our two pups Chance and Shug—both trained by inmates at a Humane Society program in the local prison—will give you lots of canine affection. (If dogs aren't big on your list, they'll leave you alone.)

In the morning, we always have a pot of coffee on in the kitchen, and you can help yourself to a hot cup of joe and a glass of juice.

Guest access

Our comfortable, spacious queen bedroom is named in memory of Mollie, one of our beloved pets. In the “Mollie Room,” you’ll have ample space to stretch out and relax, sit and read in a cozy corner, with bureau and closet space. Amenities include WiFi, TV and coffeemaker in your room. Private bathroom is right across the hall.
But don’t confine yourself to your room! Enjoy the whole house, where you’re welcome to use our kitchen, peaceful library, art-filled dining room, and windowed sun room. In nice weather, you’ll enjoy the screened porch and the backyard deck and patio by the pond. This is a peaceful, beautiful hideaway tucked right in town. And you’ll have plenty of space for parking inside our gates.

Interaction with guests

We will be on the premises, but will respect your privacy, and won’t use the upstairs while you’re staying with us.

Other things to note

We have a list of the best restaurants in town of every sort (Candide was the restaurant critic for the Winston-Salem Journal before becoming a vegetarian), and we would love to tell you all the best spots in town.

Staying at Black Dog Cottage is like staying with a dear friend -- one who has thoughtfully anticipated your every need and lovingly fulfilled it. The cottage is a charming, woodsy oasis in a quiet neighborhood, close to all the great things Winston-Salem has to offer. The bedrooms are sunny and bright, tastefully decorated with lots of charm. Candide is a wonderful, gracious host. Black Dog Cottage will always be my home away from home when I visit Winston-Salem! Thanks Candide and Mike!

Gracious, charming, and witty is how we would describe our host @ Black Dog Cottage. The place exceeded our expectations. This was our second Airbnb but simply the best. Home, charming, quaint are just a few words to describe this place. The landscape is like a Paradise, we saw a Barred Owl the first hour! Our host took time for us and made us feel welcomed. The dogs were so sweet and loving and very well behaved. Our host we're great ambassadors of Winston and great examples of Airbnb host.

This is such a lovely property. Candide and Mike have a beautiful little slice of heaven right in the middle of town. The lush greenery and quiet neighborhood make you forget you are within walking distance of so much! They were very friendly and accommodating and provided everything we could need or want and more. The room was very clean and comfortable. They made sure we were comfortable using any part of the house and to get cozy. Their dogs are incredibly sweet and they have such cool art and photos! I highly recommend this booking and hope I'll make it back someday. Thanks again!

Candide and her husband Mike love to share their home with friends and guests. Mike grew up in a military family, was born in Tokyo and has lived all around the world. Candide hails from the Berkshires in Massachusetts, where she enjoys spending time in the summer. They both are longtime Winston-Salem residents who love the easy living, beautiful spring and mild winter here. Mike is a professional writer and former journalist who works at a local community college.
