Having been in Antigua for five nights we came to Xela, and it's quite a contrast. It's better value for money but Xela has a different atmosphere. The apartment was spacious and well-equipped but some rooms lack daylight. Other reviews mention the shower, but we didn't have a problem, others mentioned the cats and they were quite active! Juan Pablo's communication was good and his mother was there to welcome us on our arrival.

We really enjoyed staying at this apartment in Xela for many reasons. The place is spacious, so you can relax in the sunny porch or on a comfy sofa in the lounge. The location is good, as you are in a nice, quiet neighborhood, but only about a 10 minute easy walk from the centre of town. We did not meet Juan Pablo himself, but he was very helpful and responded quickly to any queries we had. When we had to stay another night because of a bus cancellation, his mother very kindly brought us freshly baked food! So, overall, we would recommend this place highly!

Juan was one of the nicest and most helpful hosts I've had. He waited an hour (delayed bus) to collect me from the bus station. His mother who lives next door was very friendly, and provided me with a couple of meals. My privacy was never impeded in any way. The apartment itself is very good value for money, with separate double bedroom, living room, kitchen with cooker, wc/shower and small patio area. Less than 10 minutes to one of the central areas of the town, with plenty of small stores, bakaries, launderettes etc within a 100 yards. A short stroll up the nearby hills give great views of the town. Oh, and the wi-fi is generally excellent. The only thing to be aware of are the number of dogs in the town which, typically of this part of the world, have irresponsible owners, letting them bark at all hours. Bring ear plugs! This however is the case with the whole town (and Central America generally), and of course in no way reflects on Juan or the accommodation he provides. I would certainly recommend staying here. Many thanks to Juan and his mother for hosting me over xmas and the new year.

Juan Pablo and his mother were very welcoming hosts and they both ensured that our week's stay was a pleasant one. The apartment was nicely furnished, comfortable and situated in a quiet and convenient part of the city. I would happily stay there again on a return visit to Xela.

Me and my partner really enjoyed our stay here. You get a lot for your cash...separate bedroom, lounge and kitchen with an outside area where you can do your laundry. It is a reasonably short walk to Parque Central America and near transport hubs. Juan did groundwork for us in researching how to get to and from Xela which was appreciated. When we needed something urgently (we ran out of cooking gas) it was helpful to have Juan's lovely mother on hand to arrange more. We did have some difficulty on arrival to Xela arranging to both find and access the property. Also water was not replaced when we asked. Juan acknowledged these difficulties however and more then made up for it. Thanks Juan!

Response from Juan Pablo:
Hi Dan, Im sorry about the water and the gas, we replaced the gas as soon as we knew about it, in Guatemala 99% of people use those gas containers ... and you can run out of the product, fortunately, the delivery was fast. About the drinking water was a shame, we expected the delivery be on time but they were a little bit too late. We will improve it for next time! Have fun in Guatemala
