Willowbank is a stunning self-catering holiday cottage located right on the beach in Broadford Bay, a great base from which to explore the Isle of Skye. It offers luxury accommodation for up to 8 people plus a travel cot.
Dating back to the mid 1800s, the house has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and has been equipped to a high standard. An added feature of the property is the delightful enclosed garden with lots of space to play, enjoy alfresco meals or merely to relax whilst watching a Skye sunset over the bay – or, if you’re lucky, the Northern Lights. Whether it’s a lazy Sunday morning reading the paper in front of the wood burner before a pub lunch or an afternoon on the beach with the children, Willowbank is a perfect base for your year round break.
Guests will have access to a beautiful garden with a bubbling brook running down one side of it and, at the end of the garden, you can walk right out onto a magnificent tidal beach with rock pools tidal islands and coves to explore. There is a terrace with a BBQ and a picnic table, and a fully enclosed garden to one side great for dogs and children. The house has an ensuite double bedroom and a double and a single sharing a bathroom, a snug with woodburning stove, a spacious sitting room with satellite TV/DVD and full height windows with stunning views over the bay, and a large dining kitchen with antique oak table and chairs. There is an adjacent bothy if needed with a further double bedroom and ensuite. A travel cot is available. A shed has been equipped as a heated drying room for outdoor kit. There is wifi, washer, dryer, microwave, range cooker, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine, ipod dock and cd/radio. Off-street parking for 3 cars.
Interaction with guests
Guests will receive joining instructions prior to arrival and will find a welcome pack on arrival with contact details for owner and housekeeper in case of need. Owner will not be present at listing during the guests' stay.
The village of Broadford stretches along a wide tidal bay: a fantastic place for rockpooling, birdwatching, kayaking or simply enjoying an afternoon of sun, sand and sea. It is an ideal base from which to explore Skye, with easy access to Sleat, the boat trips at Elgol, the Red and Black Cuillin mountains, and is about 30 mins. drive from Portree. It is also just 15 minutes drive from the Skye Bridge, offering opportunities to explore the hills of Kintail and the delightful villages of Plockton and Glenelg on the mainland. Broadford itself offers a range of facilities plus a variety of shops, restaurants, and galleries. It is at the centre of a network of low level walks allowing you to discover some of the area’s extraordinary archaeological remains, as well as peaceful picnic spots, and tranquil places to enjoy the view and look out for dolphins, sea otters, or white-tailed eagles.
The cottage is walking distance from a variety of pubs and restaurants, shops, doctors, and a small supermarket. Parking for 3 to 4 cars in included with the listing. There is a local (stagecoach) and national (citylink) bus service from the village, and train station 7 miles away in Kyle of Lochalsh. The nearest airport is 2 hours away in Inverness (rental cars available from train and airport).
Other things to note
Willowbank has a unique history, a reflection of social and economic change in Broadford and the wider area – in the recent past it was a family home, but before that at various points in its history it has been a manse, a boarding house for schoolchildren, a fishing tackle shop, a market garden and croft house. You may spot traces of this history during your stay at Willowbank.
- Pets and children are welcome by arrangement, travel cot and other child facilities are available.
-The accommodation and all furniture, fixtures and effects are to be left in the same state of repair and condition as at the commencement of the holiday. The proprietors must be notified about any damage or breakages. Damage or breakage must be paid for.
-Guests should leave the cottages in a clean and tidy condition.
-As a courtesy to others, guests are asked not to smoke inside the cottages. You are welcome to smoke in the grounds.
-The Owners accept that if any damage or injury is sustained due to our neglect or poor maintenance of furnishing, household equipment or structure the hirer shall have such rights as apply by law.
-The Owners accept no responsibility for loss, injury or damage to any member of the Hirer’s party if they do not exercise due care and attention whilst hiring the cottage.
-To allow time for Willowbank to be made ready for you, could you please arrive no sooner than 4.00pm on the first day, unless by prior arrangement. The cottage should be vacated by 10am on the day of departure.
