This charming, 200-year-old, 3-bedroom cottage is in the heart of the pretty Cotswold village of Lower Swell and is just one mile from Stow-on-the-Wold, one of the Cotswold’s most popular towns. Originally the village cowman’s cottage, 1 Horseshoe Cottage is now a semi-detached country holiday retreat with a contemporary kitchen, bathroom, wood burner and pretty garden. It is an ideal touring base for the Cotswolds, with an excellent village pub and free parking directly outside the cottage.

The space
PLEASE BE AWARE that under no circumstances are additional guests above the maximum capacity allowed at the property, for day visits or overnight stays. If you are found to be in breach of this, you will be asked to leave the property and reported.

THE SPACE>> 1 Horseshoe Cottage is a typical Cotswold stone cottage overlooking Lower Swell’s quintessentially English village green and War Memorial. As you step through the front door of the cottage, you’ll immediately feel the care and high specifications that the owner has used to modernize the cottage. Everything from the royal blue velvet sofa to the lighting and crisp bed linens exudes good taste, comfort and style.

The cottage has a delightful English cottage garden, with a lawn and Bramley apple trees (guests are welcome to use the apples), a seating area and a brick barbeque with a grill.

Lower Swell is a small Cotswold village (population 400), just over one mile from the historic market town of Stow-on-the-Wold and 17 miles to Cheltenham. Surrounded by open countryside, the village is the perfect location for walking. Take a circular walk around the surrounding villages and back to Lower Swell or cross the fields to nearby Bourton-on-the-Water - a walking distance of about five miles.

Nearby Stow-on-the-Wold is a thriving Cotswold market town which, along with Moreton in Marsh, is perhaps the best known of the small Cotswolds towns. This popular town stands on a 700-foot high hill at a junction of seven major roads, including the Roman Fosse Way, perhaps a reason why it was the site of the last battle of the English Civil War in 1646. Stow has a sophisticated collection of shops and restaurants – including The Porch House Hotel, reputed to be the oldest inn in England, dating back to 947 AD.

Nearby attractions include Daylesford Farm (4.5 miles), Soho Farmhouse (18.5 miles), Cotswold Farm Park (4.5 miles), Cotswold Wildlife Park (14 miles), Birdland (5 miles), Broadway Tower (4 miles) and Snowshill Manor.

Kitchen/Dining Room

Bedroom Two

The cottage’s second double bedroom has a soothing grey-white-yellow pallet and is furnished with a double bed, a bedside table with a globe reading lamp, a double wardrobe and full-length mirror.

Bedroom Three

Looking out over the village green, this bedroom has a single bed, partly under the eaves, and is ideal for younger guests or smaller adults. The bedroom has a chair for clothes and a pretty Art Deco-style bedside light.

Family Bathroom

The bathroom has a full bath with over-bath shower, a wash basin, vanity unit with mirror, a dual-flush toilet and heated towel rail.

Outside

Immediately outside the front door is a small garden patio. Directly opposite is a wooden garden gate, which leads through to a very pretty garden with a seating area, lawn and mature trees and a brick barbecue and grill.
