House rules
The host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
This is a handcrafted custom home that was built in 2017, with a focus on sustainability and efficiency. There are many modern comforts that allow a quiet and cozy space to enjoy privacy and nature.
Cleaning supplies, kid accommodations, and fast WIFI are provided to make your stay safe, comfortable, and connected.

The space
This house has all the modern conveniences you could need, except THERE IS NO TV OR MICROWAVE. It was built in 2017 by experienced and conscientious local craftsmen. Much of the wood in the home was hand felled (from where the house now stands), milled on site, and kiln dried locally before being installed as paneling, flooring and trim.

**Because of age and quality we ask guests to take special care of the wood floor and concrete counter tops (i.e wipe up spills immediately and don’t leave dishes in the counter top).

You’ll find a top notch chef’s kitchen with a gas stove/ convection oven and hood fan. The large farmhouse sink will give you ample room to wash those luscious local veggies or the fresh caught trout from nearby rivers. A new gas grill was just added to the deck in June 2020.

* The cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom are soft close without drawer pulls. We’ve found this is great for keeping small kids deterred, however those with arthritis or hand /wrist mobility concerns may have difficulty.

The integrated air conditioning and air-exchanger provide fresh cool air on hot days, while the in-floor and forced air heat systems and the high efficiency fireplace will keep you toasty warm on those wintery Wisconsin nights.

The large walk-in shower features a rainwater showerhead and a built in clawfoot tub. Double vanity sinks are surrounded by a custom concrete countertop.

The two bedrooms each have plenty of space to spread out, with dressers and large closets for your belongings. One bedroom features a sliding glass door for access directly onto the deck— great for sipping your morning coffee or late night star gazing. The second bedroom has two large windows (south and east) for plenty of light and spectacular views, and dark curtains for cozy slumber. There is also a full sized crib for infants or small toddlers, and a few toys to keep them entertained.

A warm sunroom also features a new double futon that can be used for extra sleeping. This room has large windows on 3 sides, with curtains on the interior side to provide privacy from the living space. Linens and a feather bed topper for the futon are in the closet of the queen/South bedroom.

There’s a huge wrap around deck on three sides of the house, with a sliding glass door on each side. Deck furniture and a fire pit are provided for your outdoor enjoyment. You may want to bring camp chairs for the fire pit. Some firewood is provided. If you need more there’s a local seller in Rockton. Please adhere to local laws and don’t transport firewood (and forest pests)!

There is WIFI suitable for streaming from your device, video conferencing, or browsing the internet.

The Kickapoo Valley Reserve is right down the road, and many river access points are close by. A canoe rental and shuttle company is based in Rockton, less than 5 miles away.

The property is very private, with no close neighbors, dense woods, and an amazing view of the Kickapoo Valley and surrounding ridges. The property is 10 acres, with additional out builidings and a timber frame workshop you will pass on your way in. These areas are under video surveillance and are not open to guests at this time. Thanks for understanding.

The driveway is long, but has a couple turn outs and plenty of parking.

Guest access
The main door has a key pad, to which you'll receive the combination. There are no keys to keep track of or return.

Other things to note
This place was our primary home, not a house built to be a rental. Some features require a little care. The flooring, for example, is custom hardwood from the property and we ask guests to be conscientious and to remove their shoes.

Some fabulous hikes are very close—- Blackhawk Rock is a favorite of ours. Or, stop by the Kickapoo Valley Reserve visitor center for maps and condition updates. Rockton bar is great for a burger after a hike or paddle, and is famous for it’s Sunday chicken (call ahead to reserve your bird!).

For local shopping, check out the Organic Valley Retail stores (the house is 9 miles from the La Farge store and HQ, or 13 miles from the Cashton store, COBB, CALF and DC). Or, take a scenic drive through Amish country and peruse the many hand-made goods in the nearby shops (closed Sundays).
