The Priest Hole is a self-contained flat located within The Old Rectory, Cradley. It benefits from its own private entrance, three bedrooms, a private bathroom, and a kitchen, as well as a sitting room with a fireplace and dining area.

The Old Rectory in Cradley, Malvern is a Grade II listed three-story brick-built Georgian house, just west of the parish church of St James.

The space
The Priest Hole at The Old Rectory is perfectly situated for the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is part of the Cradley Conservation Area.

Whilst the current building is Georgian, the settlement on Rectory Lane dates back to before the times of the Domesday Book in 1086, and although the church of St James is of Norman and Medieval construction, there is evidence of Christian worship on the site in Saxon times.

During the early 20th century, the noted composer Arthur Bliss and his family were regular guests at the Rectory, and rented the property for the summers from 1905 to 1910. Bliss noted in his autobiography that the church was just through the garden gate and he was able to drop in and play the organ there if he could find someone to act as “blower”.  It seems also that during holidays at Cradley, Bliss became very interested in microscopy, thanks largely to the resident curate, who was a keen naturalist. Bliss recorded that his love of Elgar’s music was enhanced through these holiday visits.

Guest access
Guests will have use of parking facilities outside the property and their own private entrance and patio area.
