The space

The cottage is for those seeking something more spacious, comfortable and homey than a typical Cape Town flat boxed in with hundreds of other apartments, yet at a great price. The cottage is freestanding, and not a basement dwelling under a main house like many other places in the area.

- The space has a double bed in the private room, and two single beds in the main area which are used as couches when not in use.
- The space comfortably accommodates a family of 4.
- It offers even more space for a couple/single person. We convert the unused beds into a spacious sitting area. (see pictures)
- Can sleep 4 adults on budget. Two adults sleep on the full-size single beds in the open plan area (see pictures).

ENSUITE BEDROOM: Cosy and private with a double bed and a view of Table Mountain, perfect for a couple.

LOUNGE: Two farmhouse style beds are located in the open plan lounge area; perfect for two kids or relaxed adults. These convert into stylish couches when not in use and the place becomes a very spacious one-bedroom.

KITCHEN: The farmhouse kitchen is spacious and charming, opening up via double french doors onto the pool and barbecue area. It has a full-size gas stove with electric oven, microwave, plus everything you need to prepare meals with ample counter space.

Guest access

POOL: We have a nice big pool which your kitchen double-doors open up on so bring a costume. (ask for swimming towels and we will be happy to provide)

BARBECUE AREA: Outside the kitchen next to the pool is an open area to make a fire, sit and relax. The shop nearby has some fantastic 'Boerewors', a South African speciality sausage to be cooked on the fire.

CLIMBING WALL: We have a small sideways climbing wall on the wall in the alley. Fun for all ages.

WASHING: Speak to Beauty the househelp who works on the premises most days - she will gladly do washing and ironing for a small fee. This is payable directly to her and goes towards supporting her family.

Interaction with guests

There is pretty much always someone around to help out. Beauty works here full time in the week (watch out - she's a total charmer!). Cathy works in an office on the other side of the property and our cleaner. Fabian works from home and is in and out. Jarad studies at university and Mark (father) works for the City of Cape Town during normal working hours.

The neighbourhood

PERFECT NEIGHBORHOOD: If you are wanting to be near to all Cape Town's attractions, yet be in a safe and peaceful neighbourhood removed from the stressful hustle and bustle of the city then this is perfect for you. We are located in a cul-de-sac on Table Mountain overlooking Cape Town, and there is a school in our road with 24 hour security which probably makes our road the safest in the City Bowl.

We live 100m up the road from a park with a cafe. The park is really safe and the chocolate cake at the cafe is fantastic!

TABLE MOUNTAIN WALKS: There are some really stunning walks that start at the top of our road. We are locals so we know the scenic routes! There is a guide book in the cottage with some routes, tips and advice.

Getting around

A private taxi which holds 4 people from the airport to your accommodation is ~R250 / $20. Uber is always cheaper than cabs.

The city center is 15 minutes walk down the hill.

Uber is very affordable especially if you are hopping around the city center.

We are 100m from the MyCiti bus stop which will take you into town. You can take a bus directly from the airport, just remember that our bus system is not as frequent as most developed cities (1 hr intervals off-peak and closes at 9pm).

You can rent a car from the airport and drive here in 15-20 minutes. If you are looking to save money, there is a cheap car rental place called "Rent A Cheapie" who you can search for on .

Very friendly people, lovely place (sometimes a bit windy...) From Vredehoek you can reach all interesting places in Capetown fast and easily. If you have any questions, just ask Kathy, Marc or Fabian and they will help. They might offer you taking part in some family activities such as climbing table mountain on early Sunday morning, sunset yoga on their roof terrace or just taking part in an evening barbecue. If you want to be on your own it is OK too.

We liked the fact that we were not in the hustle and bustle of Cape Town during the holiday season! The cottage was comfy, very clean. We had total access to the backyard which has a view of table mountain. The hosts were very accommodating to our needs, especially with an early check-in request. We loved the fact that there was no TV. There are 3 casual restaurants within close walking distance, as well as a small convenience store that has serious curry take outs. We dined at 2 of them and were impressed. We tried an upscale restaurant close to the Gardens by host recommendation, at it was exquisite! Also like the 'wine exchange' where you take a bottle and replace it with a favorite! Thanks Humphry Family!

The little cottage at the pool was a good base to discover Cape Town. You can reach most attractions within a short drive. The Humphry family welcomed us warmly and we could ask them for help anytime. We enjoyed our stay with our two and four year old kids, altough it was very stormy, so that the doors and windows rattled quite loudly. But the fresh herbs in front of the house, the pool and the absolutely amazing view made this place very charming. We would rather recommend it for couples it friends, if you want to stay longer, because there's not so much space Romy play for kids inside the house.

Very comfortable and nice location. Some nice restaurants down the street and town is accessible by 20 min walk or easy uber ride. Loved getting to meet and interact with the Humphreys family, oh and picking tomatoes and herbs from the garden was a wonderful bonus.

The cottage is a perfect base for exploring the wonderful city of Cape Town, perfectly located in a lovely quiet area yet within easy reach of several restaurants, table mountain, the beach, the city and much more. The cottage is lovely and spacious and is kitted out with everything you would need. Very helpful hosts, would highly recommend both the cottage and Cape Town, thankyou for a lovely stay!
