this was our favourite air B and B we've ever stayed at! Akiko was the most perfect host, and along with Jun and Hiro, and Mayuko they make the best team! From the word go they were so hospitable and made the experience so nice. Staying there was a really unique and authentic experience. You sleep on Japanese style tatami mats and eat very traditional Japanese food whilst sitting on the floor. You eat all your meals with the hosts and the other guests at the hotel so you get to meet so many amazing people. Jun picked us up from the station and then we made sushi for our evening meal which was so fun and really interesting! Hiro took us on a wonderful day out, we visited a local village, went to some natural baths and went on a sake tour. We had the loveliest day! There is no shortage of things to do here, yet it is also the most relaxing few days you could ever wish for. I am so glad we stayed here as We certainly won't forget it. AKIKO is the most incredible hostess. She treats everyone so well and is very open to suggestions for meals which I loved! I told her I hadn't tried a Japanese curry yet and she made it for us all for dinner. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome which was really amazing. The whole trip was truly memorable and I highly recommend you book this if you are looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, whilst also getting a truly authentic Japanese experience. Thanks so much Tao House!

I had a very special experience at Tao house with Akiko, Jun, Mayuko, Hiro and Tao. Akiko met me at the bus stop even though I turned up late. The journey through the mountains to the house is beautiful and very easy from both Kyoto and Nijo stations. I felt welcome straight away and met many of their friends. The house is a traditional Japanese house with a really calm feeling. I visited an Onsen with them and was introduced to many of the local crafts people. Definitely stay at Tao house as a break from Kyoto! A very peaceful place with special people.I particularly enjoyed my very nice relaxing days with Mayuko and Tao, picking salad and vegetables from their garden and learnt to natural dye with Jun. I will miss you all! but most of all I will miss my favourite new friend mr. kotatsu (haha)

We had such a special stay with Akiko, Hiro, Mayuko and little Tao. They are such wonderful hosts. They cook delicious food for you all the time, run hot baths for you and we had great times sitting round a camp fire in their garden, chatting and laughing around the dinner table, playing and listening to music with them. If you want to get away to the countryside and stay in the mountains but still be within close distance to Kyoto then this is the way to do it. You will be staying in a traditional Japanese house in a room with futons and we recommend hiring a car so you can drive around to see some of the local sites. Thank you so much for having us Akiko, Hiro, Mayuko and Tao. We miss you!

The escape to a rural retreat is real. If you are expecting crowds and traffic then this is not the place. If you want to take leisurely walks, breathe some fresh air and meet with locals who are proud of their environment and do everything to maintain its serenity then rush to Keihoku.

We all had a memorable time in Keihoku. A spectacular bus ride to a spacious house with warm and welcoming hosts. The food is crazily good. We also enjoyed a local tour for the day exploring local sights with a small amount of trekking thrown in. It was great to escape the city. A stand-out experience from our trip to Japan.

We are a married couple in our 30s and 40s with a 9 month old baby. We moved from Tokyo over 2 years ago for the aim of living more sustainable way. We both used to live and travel abroad so we love meeting people from other countries and we want to introduce our beautiful mount…
