Interaction with guests
We are both busy, working graduate students, so we are not regularly in the apartment during the day, but we welcome relaxing conversations and are happy to assist you over a cup of tea with recommendations for one of the numerous delicious dining options in the neighborhood, or helping you find your way to a college campus or train station.
Green tree-lined streets, friendly neighbors, and verdant gardens make this a pleasant neighborhood to call home. Easy access to city buses, trolleys and regional rail trains make getting around and downtown Philly simple. From Zagat-listed and award-winning dining options to beer halls and local diners, the restaurants and cafés on Baltimore Avenue feature global cuisines; we're happy to give recommendations for any appetite! A well-stocked grocery co-op down the street features organic and local produce, and a neighborhood gym offers our guests a 1-day pass for $15 or weekly pass for $25.
Our building is very close to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station and is easily accessed via the 34 trolley; buses 21, 42, 52, and 64; and regional rail (49th Street Station, Media-Elwyn Line).
Connections for Amtrak and airport travelers to the 34 trolley are easy at 30th Street Station.
Free street parking in front of the building is always available.
Other things to note
Guests with feather allergies should be aware there are two poicephalus parrots that live in this apartment, separated from common areas in Victoria's room.
Smoking is not permitted in the apartment, but there is a small porch off the kitchen and a stoop outside the building available to you.
We ask guests to make sure the apartment door is locked whenever exiting.
Please limit food to the kitchen and living room only, and tightly seal all foodstuffs in your provided cabinet or in the refrigerator. Containers are available for you to use at all times in the cabinet under the toaster.
Please remove shoes upon entering the apartment and leave them on the provided shoe rack by the front door.
We are more than happy to allow you to have guests over (to hang out, etc) while you stay with us, but please check with us first to ensure that there is not a scheduling conflict.
Please ask for help, advice, or suggestions– we are more than happy to assist you!
Hi! We're Vicki and Joe, two friends sharing a lovely space in West Philadelphia. Joe, a recent transplant from New York, is a graduate student specializing in Byzantine art history, specifically the portable object side. Vicki is a Philadelphia native, works at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and has a particular interest in all things Byzantine as well.
Our home and library reflect our interests and the apartment is decorated with a blend of vintage and modern. Additionally, we share the apartment with Vicki's two adorable parrots, Mo and Draco, who live in her room.
We are both great cooks, love trying new recipes, and opening our home to entertain our friends. We also enjoy taking advantage of what Philly has to offer in terms of arts, culture, food, and events. Vicki in particular knows the best music and food venues in town. Feel free to ask us for recommendations!
We look forward to welcoming you to our home!
