PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!!! On a traffic-free, leafy lane, this is a cosy nook, a Georgian cottage/townhouse. It’s VERY SMALL. STAIRS ARE VERY, VERY STEEP! UNSUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH POOR MOBILITY. BETTER FOR FAMILIES WITH KIDS (it’s a squeeze for 4 adults). YOU NEED TO WALK THROUGH DOUBLE FROM TWIN TO REACH BATHROOM. NO TV. Projector for home cinema. Alexa. Super fast WiFi 300mps.

The space
A characterful 1829 cottage, with something of a doll's house feel, a minute's walk from Ramsgate Marina. The front door leads onto the sitting room, with original floorboards, a two-seater sofa, and working fireplace (firewood provided). A VERY STEEP, narrow wooden staircase (note this might be difficult for some people) leads up to the 2 bedrooms, each also with original floorboards, and with leafy views. Be aware the double has a normal-sized double bed )not queen/king-sized) it'd be hard to get a larger bed in the house - we had to haul this up through the window in bits!! The house has central heating. There are no doors between the two bedrooms, which are interconnected by another very steep, narrow staircase. The second, top bedroom has two antique handpainted beds, both full size singles. There's a travel cot available. There are lots of books and toys for kids, including a dolls' house, mini table football and more... koi

Guest access
1 double bedroom, 1 bedroom with two singles, sitting room with two-seater sofa and chaise longue, eat-in kitchen, bathroom, small backyard.

Other things to note
The two bedrooms are accessed via a steep small narrow wooden staircase, and the second bedroom sits atop the first; there's no door between them, but they're on separate floors. There are two singles in the second bedroom. The house will sleep four comfortably, but there's a pull-out bed and a travel cot for larger families. The bathroom is on the ground floor.
There are two toyboxes downstairs and more toys and books in the upper bedroom.
The bathroom is new, with a walk in rainfall shower. There's also a new washing machine.
Bring your bike and you can store it in the small backyard. This is also a handy space for those bring their dog.

Neighbourhood highlights

This is Ramsgate's loveliest neighbourhood, full of Georgian and Victorian townhouses, with leafy lawns. At the end of the street, Liverpool Lawn is an accessible garden in a Georgian square. Waitrose is three minutes walk away. There's a great cafe, Vinylhead, around the corner on Addington St. Don't miss a meal in the Harbour Brasserie, where the setting is fantastic, with sea on all sides. Local places to visit include Botany Bay, Joss Bay, the Turner Contemporary, and Margate's retro themepark Dreamland.

My work: Travel writer
Speaks English, French and Italian
I am a travel writer and my husband Luca is Italian and an economist. We have three children and live in London. We fell in love with the Georgian Ramsgate house in 2013 and fully renovated it to preserve its many original features. It's a very peaceful place to be, full of character, and brilliantly located, good for families or couples. We wanted somewhere with a sea view too, and so in 2020 managed to set up the Walpole Bay Writer’s Retreat. This Margate flat had been left empty for years before we began to renovate it. It’s better suited to a couple and is a great place to relax, with a hanging seat to overlook the big views.
