A period piece! Unusually spacious 1 BR in classic 1920's Berkeley building, renovated and decorated with European flair. Comfortable and fully furnished.

The space
Location: This 1 bedroom apartment is located in a classic 1920's Berkeley building, with intriguing architectural detail inside and out. It's 12 blocks ( 1.4 miles, 27 minutes walking ) from the UC campus, about a 13 minute walk from the Rockridge BART station, (0.6 mile) on a bus route, and with easy and close freeway access from Claremont Avenue.
10 minutes walk, 0.5 of a mile to Alta Bates Hospital.
Many small coffee and tea houses, bakeries, specialty restaurants, bookstores, boutiques and grocery stores on College Avenue -- all within easy walking distance in either direction. Whole Foods is a half mile away at Ashby and Telegraph Avenues.

Accommodation: It's ideal for a solo traveler or a couple. Furnished and decorated with 1920's French and Italian artwork, the apartment is spacious (780 sq ft, or 73 sq meters). It's at the rear of the building, away from street sounds. The spacious eat-in kitchen is fully equipped with granite countertops and a dishwasher. The living/dining room is comfortable for relaxing, and the desk under the window can also be used as a dining table. The bathroom has an over-the-tub shower and original 1920s tiles. The bedroom has a king-size chest bed (with storage drawers underneath). There is a front entrance and a back entrance. Lots of closet and cupboard space. The floors are refinished original hardwood throughout except in the kitchen and bathroom, which feature tile floors with French Provincial designer inserts. A semi-private coin-op washer and dryer is located one floor up on the back porch.

Pricing

• Our rates are all-inclusive. We pay the Berkeley business license tax, but it is not charged to you. Note that if you book for less than 30 days, you'll have to pay the 12% City of Berkeley occupancy tax.
• The accommodation charge includes cleaning and stocking with essential supplies before you move in. There is no separate cleaning fee.

Interaction: Our delightful managers Binyam and Bruk (originally from Ethiopia) live nearby. One of them will welcome you when you arrive and will be available (as I will) during your stay by phone or e-mail to answer any questions. Otherwise, you will have the place to yourself – we respect your privacy, and you won't be disturbed.

The fine print:
•Minimum 14 day stay
•No smoking of any kind in the apartment or anywhere else in the building - the hallways, stairways, and the grounds! It's against the law: the City of Berkeley prohibits smoking anywhere in multi-unit buildings. We also prohibit vaping (e-cigarettes) because it creates many of the same issues as second-hand cigarette smoke.
•This is a quiet residential apartment building. Please respect your neighbors – no parties or loud noise.
•Sorry, no pets.
•For residential purposes only (home office OK).

Guest access
The apartment is self-contained with its own kitchen and bathroom. There is a small rear deck outside the back door and shared laundry machines are just a few steps away on the back landing.

Other things to note
Cleaning before you check in:

This apartment undergoes a deep cleaning and disinfection before and after every guest, in compliance with the Airbnb Enhanced Clean program. The process takes many hours. It's for your protection!

Parking:

There is off-street secure parking (~6 spaces) at the rear of the building, available on a first-come first-served basis. (Not all of the occupants have cars.) There is no charge for parking. If there isn’t a space available in the off-street parking area, street parking is usually available within a block of the building. Note: Parking on the street in Berkeley is available overnight but restricted to 2 hours between 8 AM and 7 PM Monday/Saturday. Consider leaving your car behind. There is good public transport, and you can walk to many good restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery stores for everyday errands. Local car rental for a few hours or a few days is available through Turo, Getaround, Zipcars, or Kyte.

Lives in Berkeley, California
Born in England, now living in California for many years. Two (!!) graduate degrees from UC Berkeley. I have been an Airbnb guest in the US and several other countries and have appreciated the experience of staying in a real home, a place with warmth and character, in an interesting walkable neighborhood. That’s what my co-host (my husband Jack) and I offer you, too, in Berkeley – a vibrant town with an internationally renowned university, distinctive architecture, innovative restaurants, serious coffee houses, bookstores, parks, museums, theater, a lively music scene – and conveniently close to San Francisco.
