Wind down and pick up the local pace in this lodge on Sri Lanka's northernmost Point Pedro. Well-kept, comfortable, and with a family atmosphere due to the sweet care of Amma, your host.
Price is for a double bedroom with attached bathroom.
Gautam Lodge is a neat little house in a quiet little street close to the city center, but even closer to the beach. With two spacious rooms, clean sanitation, a nice living room and a little kitchen to make yourself a tea, the whole has a definite homely feel to it. On late afternoons the porch is a good place to sit and read, try to pick a mango from the overhanging tree, or play with the neighbor's puppies (be quick, those things grow fast!!).
Interaction with guests
We stumbled across the Gautam Lodge when our Dutch colleague Marten traveled to Point Pedro to join the fishermen on a trip out to sea. On his way to the beach he passed the lodge, knocked and was greeted by the venerable Mr. Gautam himself… in Dutch. Turns out Mr. Gautam has been living in the Netherlands for decades and was on his yearly visit to his neighbor and sister Amma, your host. Amma (aunty) is a very gentle, hospitable woman who is quietly enjoying her pension with her husband, after a life of elementary school teaching.
Neverbeen offers a wide variety of rare homes off the beaten track, from fisherman's huts and tree houses to heritage homes and tea estates. Our team hand-picks and visits every home and meet all hosts to make ensure guests have a positively memorable stay in places they've never been.
We provide travellers and home owners in challenging locations with access to one another, by offering communication services, online marketing services and tourism training, so that locals can make a living off their home and travellers can get to stay in places they have never been.
As such, Neverbeen works for a world in which everyone has the chance to earn income by renting out their home, regardless of language, internet access and tourism experience.
In Sri Lanka, Dishan manages our growing group of homes in cooperation with our scouts, while Rohan creates listings and provides service. In Amsterdam, Marten works out international growth plans. Our team of in-house programmers is constantly developing the platform itself and Ernst & Young does our finances.
The first country we're active in is Sri Lanka, a beautiful country with many undiscovered places to stay. Due to it recently having opened up to tourism after decades of conflict, it is a great place to start and pilot the Neverbeen concept. We plan to expand to ten countries before the end of 2017.
