Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
1-3 Carpenters Row is a comfortable and spacious end-terrace historic cottage conveniently situated for Ironbridge with its industrial history and wonderful woodland, as well as many fascinating destinations in Shropshire and the West Midlands.

The space
Carpenters Row dates back to 1783 and is a Grade 2 listed building, part of the fascinating history of the Ironbridge Gorge. 1-3 Carpenters Row is comfortable and spacious. It sleeps 4 guests in two bedrooms, plus a further 2 guests on a well sprung sofa bed. The location is great for visiting the famous Ironbridge Museums, walking, cycling and sampling the many local pubs, restaurants and cafes.

The Cottage is also an excellent base for exploring further afield in Shropshire and beyond. The space is flexible, practical and comfortable. The master bedroom has a lovely antique double bed and an en-suite bathroom. The twin room has two single beds which can be zipped together to create one super-king sized bed, so whether you are two couples or a family you will be well catered for. The small double sofa bed in the open plan dining / living room provides yet more flexibility.

Dogs
We do allow responsible dog owners to bring their pets, but would ask that you restrict them to the downstairs open plan area using the child gates provided and do not allow them on the furniture. Please be aware that the garden is not escape-proof for smaller dogs.

History of the property.
Carpenters Row is an early example of accommodation built specifically by the Coalbrookdale Company to attract a workforce to its employment. The row originally consisted of eight cottages and two brew houses. The design of the row was symmetrical: numbers 1-5 were mirror images of numbers 6-10. Each house accommodated the workforce using a system of 'hot bedding', workers from one shift occupying the straw mattress beds from the other, approximately 15 persons per house. So at one point in history the three converted houses that you will be staying in would have once housed around 45 workers. Each house also performed a certain function: the brew-house, which is now the kitchen, housed the old cast iron pot which can now be found in the rear garden.

Guest access
You have access to the whole house.

Carpenters Row Cottage comprises:
1 kitchen with dishwasher, oven, gas hob, small microwave, kettle, 4 slice toaster, two fridges (with freezer compartments) and washing machine.
2 bathrooms (1 is en-suite shower room to the master bedroom)
2 bedrooms - 1 with double bed, one with 2 singles which can be joined to make a super-king if desired
27 ft (8.2m) oak beamed open plan living / dining room
log burner and gas central heating
2 comfortable sofas (one of which is a compact double sofa bed)
Small private garden to the side with patio furniture
Terrace along the front
Off road parking for 1 car
(other free off-road parking can be found close by)
Garden at side of the cottage is gated and has railings, however we cannot guarantee that it is not dog escape proof!

We provide bed linen, towels, handsoap, shampoo, conditioner, dish washer tablets, tea towels, toilet rolls and a supply of tea bags, instant coffee and sugar. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you need anything particular, a full inventory can be provided

Accessibility for people with limited mobility - the car parking space is to the rear of the cottage and access to the front door is down a moderately sloping lane, approximately 25 metres. Access to the front door is up 3 sturdy steps. Once inside the cottage, the bedrooms are situated upstairs. The staircase is straight and not particularly steep or narrow. The en-suite bathroom has a walk-in shower (with a small step). There is no downstairs toilet. Please ask if you need any further information or clarification.

Other things to note
Younger guests are catered for: there is plenty of plastic crockery and cutlery, as well as a high chair and travel cot available - just let us know what you will require.

Neighbourhood highlights

Carpenters Row Holiday Cottage is just a stones throw away from the Ironbridge Gorge Museum of Iron and Enginuity ( an interactive science and engineering muserum for children of all ages).
The nearest cafe, the well recommended Furnace Kitchen, is a few minutes walk, sharing the Museum of Iron site.

The closest pub is also just a few minutes walk!
The area has cycle routes and many lovely woodland walks starting from the doorstep of the cottage.

The Museums use a passport ticket system, which on their website says....

''The Annual Passport Ticket represents fantastic value. It allows unlimited daytime admission to all 10 Ironbridge Gorge Museums, during normal opening hours, so you can return as often as you like for one year. If after 12 months you have still not visited particular sites, you can return at any time in the future to make one free visit to the sites that you've missed''

Within walking distance of the cottage, in Ironbridge town itself, there are a wide range of pubs, cafes and restaurants along with a good selection of independent shops and the fascinating Antiques Centre!

The area also offers opportunities to fish, canoe, golf or visit the Greenwood Trust and learn traditional crafts such as making a coracle or a wicker basket.

Exploring the wider area :
Shrewsbury is 16 miles away (historic town centre with many independent shops and original timber framed buildings)
The Wrekin hill is 5 miles
Much Wenlock 6 miles (wonderful Priory and authentic medieval town centre)
Church Stretton and the Long Mynd 26 miles (interesting shops and the starting point for walks in the South Shropshire hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty)
Ludlow 26 miles (beautiful ancient buildings, castle and known for being a 'foodie' mecca.

See our airbnb guidebook for our recommendations.

We think our cottage is perfect for a long weekend, a short midweek visit or a great base for a longer stay.

We hope that you come to visit again to take full advantage of everything Shropshire has to offer.
