Designed as a playful cross between a Zen tea house and Highland hunting lodge, Assich Zen Lodge is a luxury log cabin with Zen garden, created within the grounds - and using many of the stones - of an ancient ruined byre. It offers truly unique, romantic and luxurious accommodation in beautiful and tranquil surroundings, where guests can enjoy stunning panoramic views of mountain, sea, forest and castle, with exclusive use of large decked area, wood-fired hot-tub, sauna and fire pit.

The space
Accommodation is a large open-plan space - consisting of: lounge with wood-burning stove, bedroom area with luxury super king size bed, dining and kitchen areas (each with its own panoramic bi-fold doors) - and a separate toilet and shower room. Beyond the bi-fold doors is a large decked area with access to sauna, fire pit, hot tub, log store and outdoor seating. Please note: due to the nature and location of the property, featuring multiple trip-hazards, Assich Zen Lodge is regrettably not suitable for children or the infirm. Adjacent accommodation for two adults also available - see separate listing for Assich Croft. (Discount rates available for hiring both). Please note: at least a day's notice is required to prepare the hot tub. Please note also that the sauna and hot tub are both wood-fired, and their stoves need to be fed periodically with logs (from the log store). I will give full instructions on the operation of the stove, or I can usually do it for you if required. Depending on the ambient temperature, the hot tub takes between 3-5 hours to reach a good temperature (I can get it ready for your arrival), and the sauna from 45 minutes to an hour. Wood is included in the price of the booking.

Where you’ll be

Cawdor, Scotland, United Kingdom

Perched on an esker (a long terraced hill formed by the action of glacial meltwater on gravel), Assich Croft enjoys truly stunning panoramic views over the Moray Firth, the Black Isle, Easter Ross and the mountains of the North West Highlands. On a clear day (not unusual in an area with some of the lowest rainfall in Scotland), with a good pair of binoculars, you can see as far as the Orkneys. Obviously the North West Highlands are a well-documented walker's paradise (Ben Wyvis features prominently in the view from the garden), but there are many delightful walks possible straight from the door, which I would be happy to advise guests on. We are also blessed with a plethora of beautiful (and often deserted) beaches in the vicinity, and there is world-class fishing and golf to be had locally. Nature is abundant and varied (red squirrels, deer, hares, buzzards and sparrow hawks are all regular visitors to the garden), or you might choose to make friends with one of the beautiful Clydesdale horses in the field next door. The one infamous representative of Scottish wildlife that you're happily unlikely to see here is the dreaded midge! Being almost entirely midge-free, we are also able to properly enjoy long summer evenings with regular spectacular lingering sunsets, and if you're really lucky you may get to see the Northern Lights.
