Located along a quiet, unmarked lane in Horsington Marsh, Feltham's Cottage has all the benefits of an organic farm stay (pigs, sheep, hens, ducks, multi award winning cheese facility, wood burning stove, surrounded by fields) with mod cons (28 inch TV, dishwasher). Ideal for children as you can roam across our 22 acres of land - play in the haystacks in the barn, bounce on our trampoline, climb our tree house, swings, and hammocks. And you can help feed the animals...
The space
A modern cottage in a farm, surrounded by nature, where you can interact with the farm as much or as little as you like. You can relax outside in your own grass garden (see photo) that backs onto the stable yard, with your own porch with BBQ (even a hammock in good weather - please ask for this), or inside with the wood burning stove, retro board games like scrabble, monopoly and cards, and 28 inch digital TV & classic DVDs (Easter Parade, Whatever Happened to Eve etc). There are comfy sofas, mohair throws, original artworks, and a fully equipped kitchen. We also have a child's cot, and a trip trap high chair. We have 100% Indian white cotton bed linen for all the beds, and we favour environmentally sustainable furniture (usually upcycled and dog friendly) and organic food, so everything you get from us will be locally sourced, and organic. This also means that we will not use plastic unless necessary or recycled, and we have environmentally friendly products which might not wash as deeply as other chemicals but are better for the environment.
Secluded Somerset is all very well in the beautiful summer weather, but what about the rest of the year when it's, well, not? We offer you use of our barns and haystacks (great for children). A swing and much used wooden climbing frame. Plus you have use of all those board games you see in the photo, and a ping pong table in the shed opposite.
We live next door so we can either let you in, or if you arrive late, the keys are in a key lock by the front door. We welcome everyone who is staying a long weekend or more eggs, some local cider, and of course milk, tea, and coffee. You can have no interaction with us, that's fine, or we can direct you around the area as you wish. if you see us please say hi - we would love to meet you!
With beautiful rural views of the Blackmore Vale, Horsington is a lovely quiet Somerset village. There is Pevlings riding school up Cabbage Lane (1.5 miles away), historic Sherborne 15 minutes away with its 1000 year old Abbey, the new contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth in Bruton is 15 minutes drive north, and wonderful Glastonbury 30 mins away. There is good walking, fishing and cider picking all within 10 minutes of us. Oh and the fabulous National Trust properties, Montacute House, Lytes Cary, & Stourhead with its beautiful gardens all about 20-35 mins drive away.
Getting around is best by car, though you could conceivably go to Templecombe train station from Waterloo, and walk to us across the fields (30 mins) you would then have to order in food and other provisions (which we can do).
Guest access
Guests can access all our 22 acres of land, though we ask that you don't feed the animals (pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks). We are certified organic as a farm so please no chemicals or litter please.
Other things to note
This is a working organic farm - so it is not chocolate box pretty all the time. When it rains there is mud, we frequently have old machinery opposite the cottage, piles of wood that are not artfully arranged, and our free range chickens and peacocks can sometimes leave quite a mess. People have complained about all these things. If you don't like real live farms, please don't stay here. Similarly, this is the country, there are a ton of spiders out there in the fields (a good thing!), and spiders will spin a web in an hour, and that hour can be between us cleaning and you arriving. So talk to us if you find a cobweb! We try always to put fresh local flowers in all the rooms, and if you stay more than one night you get fresh farm produce for free such as organic eggs, organic milk, a bottle of local cider, and sometimes local produce when you arrive, so there is an upside to a farmstay.
We are foodies here at Feltham's Farm, and make multi award winning Organic cheeses Renegade Monk, Rebel Nun, Gert Lush and La Fresca Margarita.
Our policy is that unless you are prepared to say hello to us when you arrive, and talk to us in person about any issues you have then we respectfully ask you to stay elsewhere. We are a working community of workaway volunteers and a family, over ten years we've discovered that those Airbnb guests that talk to us are the ones we want to have to stay. The cottage is secluded but our house is opposite - so please come over and say hi. We'd love to meet you.
There is a responsibility on guests to not put dirty cutlery back into the drawer (it's just happened), to put dirty nappies in the outside bin, to recycle bottles so we don't have to sort through the rubbish, and to not leave piles of dirty washing up.
We are always trying to improve, so if the above resonates, then we very much look forward to meeting you. Please be aware this is a working farm, and the cabin and cottage are situated on the barn yard, which means there will be people tractors and animals moving around the perimeter of your back yard. The cottage and the pigs are your nearest neighbours - if you sit in your garden you will hear both if they are being loud!
As organic Cheesemakers we find it hard to do changeovers for single night stays, specially during busy holiday seasons. so whilst we do host single nights we usually only agree these the week of the booking (as we know when we need to be elbow deep in curds rather than cleaning a holiday let). Thank you for noting this - so if you request a single night stay more than 5 days out, we won't be able to agree it then - though might later in the week.
