Welcome to our beautiful Victorian home with your private bed and bath! Features a chef's dream kitchen, laundry, garden, and shared living room with internet & TV. Explore Oakland by walking to great food/bars, or it's only a 12min BART ride to San Francisco.

The space

Built during the Gold Rush boom in 1868, our home is one of the oldest in Oakland. Includes new and comfortable bedding on a double-size bed, a private clawfoot tub/shower, hardwood floors, fully-stocked kitchen (Wedgewood stove, dishwasher, washer/dryer), and a very friendly cat! At the intersection of Chinatown/Downtown/Old Oakland, it has great walkability, and we have recommendations on the best spots.

Guest access

* High speed internet and TV (no cable, but Netflix and Hulu).

* Use of a guest monitor, keyboard, mouse.

* High end washer and dryer in the kitchen.

* Kitchen with all kitchen utensils, cooking supplies, and staple ingredients.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you'd like; you're sharing the house with a couple, Zack and Kristen, who both work in downtown San Francisco during the day, but are often around at night.

We've both lived in Oakland and San Francisco for many years, and are glad to give recommendations for things to see, eat, or do in the area (or where to live!).

Other things to note

There is a very friendly large cat. She is not allowed in the guest bedroom, however if you're very allergic this may not be the house for you.

Your bathroom is on the first floor, off of the kitchen, while your bedroom is on the second floor.

We're excited to make your visit go great, and looking forward to helping you have a perfect stay.

Nothing. Just want to forget the visit. We had a nightmare with parking issues. Car park that was recommended was unsafe and advised by police and several people not to park there. House was cluttered whilst we did not expect it to be perfect there has to be a certain level of tidiness and cleanliness. Next to wasteland and wasteland fence covered in graffiti. Gardens were a mess. Zachary didn't have the courtesy to say goodbye. Didn't feel welcome !!!

Response from Zachary (And Kristen):
We are very sorry that Janice and her husband had a bad experience with us and Airbnb and wish them the best. If anyone has any questions about our house or neighborhood, please feel free to read our other reviews or just message us! Janice might have been better served by a hotel in a suburban area; we got the impression that she and her husband haven’t had much experience traveling in foreign cities. We spent a lot of time helping them plan their travels (something we love to do for our guests!), but we didn't get a chance to say goodbye because (as a favor) we allowed them a late checkout after we had already left for work.

Zach and Kristen have a lovely house and my room was just what I needed - a hugely comfortable bed (with lots of different types of pillows) and space to hang clothes and space to work. There are great bars and restaurants close by and it's a 10 minute walk to BART. The shower in my bathroom was really powerful which I loved. They also have a gorgeous cat who is very friendly. It was a great base in Oakland - thanks for having me!

Zachary and Kristen (and Lisette) made me feel very welcome when I arrived and I wish I could have spent more time with them! I was in Oakland for a conference (which ended up being more hectic than expected), so apart from the first evening which we spent together, I must have seemed almost an invisible house guest! The house is warm and friendly and the listing is very accurate. It is easy walking distance from 12th St Oakland BART and it has good links into SF and the surrounding areas. If I am in town again I would definitely consider staying here again! San Francisco and the Bay area is utterly wonderful. I really hope I will have the chance to come back! Thanks Zachary and Kristen!

Zach and Kristen's place was very convenient.y located, had great amenities, and lovely hosts. Communication with my hosts prior to my stay was excellent and I felt very prepared when I arrived. Their friendly cat was a nice bonus too and made my less homesick for my own kitty.

Zach & Kristen's spot is exactly as described. I don't usually stay with random hosts but had to on this occasion; they were warm and welcoming after a long flight and late arrival. Earplugs helped cut out the stairway creaks and I was delighted to not be allergic to the cat. Zach providing requested breakfast essentials was the icing on the cake.

Kristen and Zachary's quiet haven is perfectly situated just steps from the heart of Oakland. They are super friendly hosts - had a great chat with Kristen on the night I arrived & Zachary texted me to make sure I didn't miss out on the Farmer's Market the next day. They made the whole process easy. The bed was a literal dream - so cozy! And their cat...a total charmer. Great experience all around!

Great location near the downtown area. Zach and Kristen were very accommodating, and their home is clean and cozy. I am glad I stayed with them over a hotel.

I'm a Bay Area native and along with my wife, Kristen, host in a house we own in Oakland. We love exploring the outdoors (hiking, biking, skiing), cooking, and enjoying the restaurants and events that make the Bay Area unique.
