Comfortable self-contained cabin for 2, sitting upon a stunning private hilltop site overlooking Taurikura Bay in Whangarei Heads. Affordable peace, quiet and privacy is our aim (1 night stays available most days). Grass camping site space available (campers #3-8 will need to bring own tent/bed/linen /consumable items and supplies). The parking area is not situated at the cabin so sleeping in vehicles can only be done so at separate ends of the property.
Safe ample parking available on site.

The space
The cabin has a comfortable queen size bed with all linen and towels provided for 2 guests. The kitchenette is equipped with a microwave, kettle, toaster, bar fridge with full width ice-box, an electric grill/hot plate and a single element induction cooktop. BBQ grill on your patio deck with table and 2 chairs. For 8 guests, all basic kitchen plates, cutlery and utensils, single pot and pan. Extra refrigeration for extra campers can be provided upon request for longer term stays. For 2 guests black tea, plunger coffee, sugar, cooking oil, handy towels, salt & pepper is included. Please bring your own milk if required for tea/coffee. Hand soap and toilet paper is provided in the bathroom for 2 guests.
For all campers and stays over 2 nights, please bring everything you need as supplies are just to get you started or for 1-2 night stays only and not expected to estimate all your needs for longer periods of use.
There is also a cold water outside shower for hot summer weather.
Electric car fast charging is available if we are on site (with prior arrangement and extra charges).

Guest access
The cabin is set up as a private retreat, so if its the affordable but yet simple non-shared accommodation space with total peace and quiet and stunning views that you are looking for, then this is the place for you. There is no need to check in with us, so self check-in is easy and private. There is no road traffic near and no other housing, a true getaway experience. Ideal for Te Araroa group campers also as the track goes right past the bottom of the driveway. Safe off-street, on-site private parking is provided for cars, campervans and a boat if required. This is at the opposite end of the house to the cabin so equipment is required to be carried the short distance to your cabin and camping site and live-in vans and campervans will situate in this parking area and not up beside the cabin. There is a grass area to get across to the cabin, which can be soft and wet during winter months.

Other things to note
Extra guest charge does not apply to your single pre-school child staying inside the cabin with you and not requiring extra bedding/linen. Campers require all their own equipment, bedding and consumables supplies.
I can provide up to 2 extra mattresses with bed linen made up for guests #3-4 if you all wish to share the same small space rather that have the extra guests camping out. The inside table and chairs would be removed with the addition of the 4th guest (but remain for the third guest) in order to compensate for the additional bedding room required, so table seating would only be available outside in this instance. (This option for extra internal cabin mattresses is unavailable for the period from 8 January 2026 to 22 January 2026).
Wifi is provided with a good signal throughout the cabin and surrounding area.

Where you’ll be

Whangārei Heads, Northland, New Zealand

We offer a very secluded, tranquil setting on a private hilltop, no other neighbours surround you. As this is a DOC and Kiwi conservation area, absolutely no dogs or fires are permitted at any time. If you are lucky, you may hear the Kiwi calling at night, and very occasionally we have had a kiwi visit.
Short walk to Taurikura beach, 7 min drive to Ocean Beach, 10 min drive to Parua Bay shops.
Wonderful DOC walking tracks such as Mt. Manaia, Mt. Aubrey, Smugglers Bay and Te Whara Track (part of Te Araroa).

We live on 1.5 acres of private land at the top of the Taurikura Peninsula and offer 2 accommodation options for your enjoyment at the Whangarei Heads. It is a spectacular area, full of nature, beauty and amazing beaches including the stunning Ocean Beach and Smugglers Cove, as well as home to numerous great walking tracks for you to explore.
