This 16th century detached house, nestles into the hillside of Church Street and is perfectly placed for those wishing to explore Bath and the surrounding countryside. The train station is only a short walk (12 mins approx) down Widcombe Hill, with the historic city centre and shops just moments beyond. Alternatively, a stroll along Church Street will lead you into countryside and the stunning grounds of the National Trust's Prior Park Gardens.

This historic house has immense charm and oozes homeliness. Inside it retains many of its original features such as stone mullion windows, open fireplaces, beams and a spiral staircase. Outside it has a delightful hillside garden with paved areas for outdoor dining.

Where you’ll be

Bath and North East Somerset, England, United Kingdom

Church Street is located in an area of Bath called, Widcombe which has a village-like atmosphere and is only a short walk from the centre of Bath. Widcombe has a wonderful array of local shops including a couple of small supermarkets, a chemist, a superb deli, several coffee shops, hairdressers, a florist, restaurants, takeaways, a gin distillery and several pubs, one being the very popular White Hart which offers delicious home cooked food. The nearby Prior Park Garden centre has a cafe and a superbly stocked food hall selling everything from fresh bread and vegetables to home cooked freezer food.

Bath is best explored on foot and is easily accessed either by walking over Halfpenny foot bridge or by taking a short stroll along the Kennet & Avon canal. Besides the Roman Baths, the city has a wealth of historic sites, museums and galleries, as well as good shops, bars, clubs and restaurants.

As well as exploring the city there is much to see and do from the house in Church Street, which takes its name from the delightful St Thomas à Becket church, built between 1490 and 1498, on the site of older Saxon and Norman chapels. This tiny settlement was mentioned in the Domesday survey of 1086. Opposite the church is the magnificent Grade I listed Widcombe Manor which is thought to have been designed by Inigo Jones in 1656. And in the swinging 60's, was the home of the socialite Jeremy Fry, whose visitors included Cecil Beaton, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon. Nearby are the gardens of Prior Park, owned by the National Trust, and the Bath Skyline walk, a 6 mile circular route through woodlands, meadows, an Iron Age fort, Roman settlements, 18th century follies and with spectacular views. Alternatively, you could walk, cycle (bike hire available locally) or boat (Bath Narrowboat hire) along the Kennet & Avon Canal to the ancient Saxon town of Bradford on Avon (12 miles).

There is so much to see and do in or around Bath that deciding what not to do will be the problem.
