Description

The space

If you want to be in the real heart of our city, come and live in this beautiful & sunny apartment near the centre of everything.

The bedroom, with a double bed, also has doors to a long, narrow balcony. There is also a lovely living room, with doors to the balcony, a full bathroom off the bedroom, and a very little kitchen where you can cook if you want a night in.

The view from the little balcony is great as you will be on the 8th floor (there´s an elevator!) - you can see the Mapocho River, the former train Station (now a great cultural center) and watch life happen in Chile´s capital. Light and life comes through the windows, but if you want to be in silence and peace, just close the balcony doors, pull the shutters and you'll be alone with your soul. Wifi you ave in the apartment.

The building, from 1950, is well kept and has 24 hours desk attendance. You will be 5 blocks from Plaza de Armas, 100 meters from Central Market (good for eating fresh local seafood for lunch, or buying fresh fruit and vegetables) and just 20 meters from the Metro station Cal y Canto. I lived in this building for 10 years and really enjoyed the area.

You can also walk along the riverside to the popular Parque Forestal, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Contemporary Art Museum) and the beautiful Lastarria quarter (cafes and quiet streets). Or cross the bridge and come to La Vega (the biggest market of vegetables), Patronato quarter (lots of cheap clothes), and Bellavista (thousends of bars and restaurants).

Just around the corner from the apartment you have LA PIOJERA, a traditional bar, where you can take a "Terremoto" (young wine with Pineapple icecream). But watch out - they are super strong, unless you wash them down with a strong fish or shell soup, made fresh for you at the Central Market next door.

I have added this apartment to AirBNB not long ago, so if you´d like to see more reviews about your host, or stay in shared accomodation instead of your own place, please see my other listings to the right.

The house is very cozy and super well located. I spent a month with my fiance and we practically made the whole center on foot. Nene is extremely helpful and leaves everything tidy for you to get and enjoy. It is a very worthwhile experience!

Nice and cosy little apartment with everything I needed. One of the best things is all the warm natural light it gets during the day - and the great view from the little balcony. Very clean and tidy, good wifi, close to the metro, markets and restaurants. Hope to come back and stay again another time!

I had a very pleasant month at Nené’s place, and I'd definitely stay there again. Nené was a good host; she was very quick to respond when I sent her messages. The apartment is very close to the Central Market, although I preferred the 15-minute walk to Barrio Lastarria most evenings.

Hostess: Nene was very helpful with our many questions as we are new to Airbnb, she was patient with our inability to plan precisely our arrival, she met us on time and explained everything about the apartment and the city. We did not use her help a lot during our month but due to a medical emergency it was great having her contact info at hand and knowing she was there if needed. Apartment: exactly as discribed, comfortable, had almost everything needed. I cooked most days in the tiny kitchen with no problem. Great cleaning service and help with laundry. Now in Ecuador and really realizing how much cleaner and better equipped Nene's place was than what we have here. Everyone, residents, staff, and even nearby store owners were wonderful to us! Very secure building day and night. Veranda and glass doors get sun in winter when needed but not in summer...thank goodness! Neighborhood: as advertised, this is an Adventure in Santiago...not a luxury spa. The nicer parts of Santiago are like America and we could stay home for that. We choose to see this city as most residents see it. But, like in any big city where we are tourist from a "richer" nation, we took precautions. We did not go out after dark as there are bars on our street, we did not carry a purse, visible cameras, or nice looking back packs. We wear lots of securable pockets for phone, wallet, I.d., money and only carry what we need each day. We watch where we are, stay alert, act confident. We did not try the buses but there are taxis everywhere, very honest and cheap. Used the metro often. Loved the food. Several great resurants very near, good small ones on the block, an amazing market across the river and fish market next door (that is why I cooked often). Very noisy in the day, but quite enough when doors are closed. The city long park runs right by here and we often used it to walk everywhere because it is cooler and more pleasant than the streets. We were there one month in Dec/Jan.

Response from Nené:
Thanks, Kathleen. I hope people interested in renting the apartment reads it. Is important, as you describe, to know where you will be, and what you can expect or not. I think you both enjoyed the enjoyable and have seen the reality of town. So, again I'm thankful for you have appreciate the people, the personnel, the neighborhood...and the building.... Would be lovely to have you back.... I know Chile is expensive. I try to adjust prices all I can....Un abrazo y gracias otra vez.

Everything about this experience was positive. The apartment, the building (and those working there), the neighborhood, and Nené were all wonderful. There are many large markets right outside the apartment as well as fantastic restaurants. The metro is also right outside although the building could not be more centrally located, especially from a tourist's perspective. The apartment itself has a beautiful view of the city and mountains beyond while Nené went to lengths to make sure I had everything I needed. Great apartment, great renter, great area of the city. I can not recommend highly enough.

Cosy apartment, as described. Great location to walk around the centre of town. No problems despite arriving very late at night. Kitchen is a bit small for any elaborate cooking, but serves the purpose for simple things. Nene was super helpful and responsive throughout my stay.
