Hand-built by our grandfather in 1976 from Canadian cedar logs, [ˈkābɪn] holds a dear place in our hearts. We lovingly restored it in 2020 and are delighted to open its doors to nature lovers and the style savvy seeking a peaceful respite.
With sweeping views across the traditional lands of the Taungurung people, your only task is to relax and enjoy the view, sip a wine by the fire, take a bath or read a book. We’ve added all the creature comforts we love so that your stay is care-free.
The space
We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which [ˈkābɪn] is built, the Taungurung people, and pay our respects to their elders past, present and emerging.
We love creating beautiful spaces - this is our fifth project in 10 years! The cabin presented a challenge as we wanted to preserve its original rustic charm, yet introduce luxury elements and modern amenity. For the styling, we drew cues from Canada, Scandinavia, and Europe to create gorgeous and inviting spaces - that are both inviting and magazine-worthy.
If you’re looking to be transported to a place where time stands still and nature embraces you, then look no further! No matter your reason for getting away - romantic, creative writing, solitude, yoga, meditation, birdwatching, reading, sketching/painting, hiking - [ˈkābɪn] delivers!
We guarantee that the view of Lake Eildon and mountains stretching as far as the eye can see will drop your blood pressure. You can't help but leave your city worries behind with the magnetic calm of the natural surrounds.
Our full-length front porch with ample seating provides the perfect spot to take in our sweeping views and a warm fly-in welcome from our resident king parrots.
The original cedar logs have been retained on all interior walls for that warm and rustic feel. The central living area offers generous and comfy seating around the Nectre wood heater and we’ve got a 40” smart TV if you somehow tire of the view (no free-to-air TV, sorry). A SONOS One speaker can be connected using the SONOS App to play your favourite tunes.
Free WIFI is provided, though our data via Satellite NBN is limited so we ask that guests keep streaming to a couple of hours a day so there’s enough for everyone.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with brand new appliances so you'll never be roughing it. There's a gas cooktop and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, stick blender, plus a breadmaker for baking your own fresh loaf (BYO Bread Mix). Twinings tea and Nespresso Vertuo coffee is provided, as well as salt, pepper and olive oil. A Weber Q gas barbecue provides the ultimate cooking option when the weather is warm....we'd argue that not many folks can turn their snags whilst enjoying a view like ours!
When it's time to turn in, we love a good night's rest so our two queen bedrooms boast luxury hotel mattresses and bases with custom upholstered bedheads (all linen is provided).
There's panel heaters, hot water bottles and electric blankets for the cooler months and ceiling fans for the warmer ones.
The bunk room accommodates 2 children (no adults sorry - the bunk beds are rated to 50kgs or less = 12yrs or younger).
During the renovation, we added a hero room: a new master bedroom ensuite, or "bath-room" in the literal sense of the word. Its sole purpose is to house a luxurious cast iron clawfoot bathtub. Because a soak with a view through the french doors to the lake, book, and vino in hand sounded pretty darn good to us! We know guests will love it too!
The main bathroom has a shower unit (it isn’t roomy we won’t lie!), vanity, and euro laundry (stacked washer/dryer), plus a separate toilet. It's accessed both from the master bedroom and the rear hallway. Our beautiful bath products are from sustainable merchants The Green Store. All bath towels are supplied.
We’re seasoned travelers and hosts (we've hosted another property in Trentham since 2015) and pride ourselves on delivering the little details that make a stay feel like home. We are delighted to share this very special family haven and look forward to hosting those seeking bush therapy away from their busy lives.

🌿STRICTLY NO pets, smoking, parties, bonfires/fire pits, shooting or late night noise. Our neighbours’ safety and peaceful enjoyment of their property must not be compromised and we won’t hesitate to cancel your stay if any of these rules are breached.
🌿PRICING STRUCTURE / USE OF BEDS
We want the cabin to appeal to a variety of guests and groups which is why we have set a nightly price for 2 people, with a small fee for each additional guest. We just don't think a couple seeking a romantic getaway for 2 should pay the same as a larger group using more bedrooms and consumables.
We hate assuming, so please let us know if you are 2 guests requiring separate beds, as the extra guest fee will apply for the additional bed (as will using bedding from beds that were not slept in i.e. bringing a duvet from another bed to use on the sofa). There are additional blankets provided in the living room and we ask you don’t use bedding from other beds you didn’t book.
🌿KIDS ONLY IN THE BUNKROOM
The cabin accommodates a maximum of 4 adults sleeping in the 2 queen bedrooms. The third bedroom (‘bunkroom’) is accessed through the 2nd queen bedroom and accommodates 2 children (no more than 12 years old) in a bunk.
🌿SMALL KIDS
We don't recommend the property for children under 3yrs. This is due to the open fireplace, the porch having handrail but no balustrade (60cm drop), and the steep drop after the front lawn into the gully.
🌿COVID-19
If you or any other guests have any of the symptoms of coronavirus, however mild, we ask that you please stay home for everyone's sake.
Our cleaning practices adhere to the guidelines published by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services and include cleaning and disinfection all frequently touched surfaces (for example, tabletops, door handles, light switches, toilets, taps, TV remotes, kitchen surfaces, and cupboard handles). We have also committed to AirBnB's cleaning standards.
If government travel restrictions prevent your stay at [ˈkābɪn] we will allow you to reschedule your dates without penalty.
