The space

Martine and John – an Anglo-French couple – welcome you to their intimate bed and breakfast establishment in the historic centre of Bourges , an ancient Cathedral town in the middle of France.
We have a two bedroom self contained suite on the first floor designed to take three people (190 cm x 140 cm bed sharing couple+one single)It is compact, so probably not the place to practice your morning run.
The second floor self contained attic room - which is very warm during hot weather -can sleep four people ( One 200 cm x 140 cm mezzanine double, two singles ) but, during the music festivals and by prior arrangement... it rather depends how well you know each other!
Minimum stay two nights for the second floor room.
Ten minutes drive from the mid France A 71 North/South autoroute and 220 kilometres ( some 137 miles ) South of Paris.
There is a direct train service from Paris (Austerlitz) to Bourges that takes around two hours.
If you are coming by car there is unloading in front of the house and free parking a couple of minutes round the corner.
An ideal journey break if you are travelling from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean or Spain , or just for the pleasure of a visit to this attractive town.
No TV, but free wifi connection.
Most of the attractions along with the bars, restaurants etc are within easy walking distance.
We are a organic /'green' household as much as is possible without being fundamentalist about it.
The per night price is 55 euros per bed - sharing couple ( 'Continental 'breakfast - ie bread, yogurt, orange juice etc -non cooked stuff - included ) and 20 euros per extra guest/bed .
On behalf of the Mairie we have to charge guests the tourist tax of 82 centimes per adult per night.

Guest access

We are a typical French bed and breakfast establishment. We provide bed/s and breakfast/s. The kitchen cannot be available to guests - most of the time it is probably being used to make your jam!

Interaction with guests

The calendar is not always correct, so if it seems the dates you want are already booked - contact us anyway.
Printemps De Bourges 2018, April 24 - 29.We are usually pre booked for this music festival but might be able to suggest alternative accommodation .

Other things to note

We have a cat so this is probably not the place for someone with an over active dog - though we have had hamsters to stay ( caged, I am pleased to say - for the hamsters)

We had a lovely stay at John's place in the centre of Bourges old town. John and his partner were really friendly and provided lots of information on where to eat and what to see, and also laid on a nice breakfast with homemade jams. Considering how little we'd known about Bourges before our trip neither of us could believe it's not better known. It's incredibly atmospheric, particularly at night, when it's like walking back in time.

I went to Bourges with a friend and we spent three nights at Martine and John's beautiful home. The house is a medieval building, very charming and cosy. It is located in the old town, within walking distance to all the historical sites. Martine and John are amazing hosts, very warm, interesting and funny. They really made us feeling at home. We had great time chatting with them at breakfast which is delicious. Look forward to going back!

John and Martine were very welcoming hosts. We learned a lot about the area and got some tips for our journey down south. The house is amazing, and we had delicious bread at breakfast plus some homemade jam and grapes grown on the windowsill. Bourges is a buzzing lovely town and we had a great time for the one night we stopped over.
