First, Anna was immensely welcoming and helpful. She met us at the water-bus pier, reassured our daughter and walked us the short distance to the flat. She was friendly and gave us good advice about the area. The location is excellent, even for mobility-constrained people (we had a heavy baby buggy which was foolish given the number of bridges). It's a ten minute walk from the Rialto and twenty minutes from St Mark's square. Nearby are a supermarket and some solid restaurants, though expensive as usual for Venice. The flat is on the second floor of an old building, which I believe Anna owns. Inside, the décor and fittings are pleasant if aged. There are random curios dotted around the walls - a treaty from the second Cisalpine republic, strange drawings - which give the flat an unusual air. Overall, a central and convenient base from which to explore Venice.
Anna was super kind and met us at the water bus stop and took us to the apartment. The location was great. It was easy to get to all the sights. The neighbourhood was also really great to hang out in. There's also a handy supermarket nearby. We really enjoy relaxing in the apartment when we go away. We didn't find the apartment the most comfortable place to spend lots of time. We found the mattress and sofa quite hard. We also had a bit of a tricky time making the hot water last for two showers. The whole apartment has beautiful windows. We really enjoyed having them open as we slept. And there's a terrace on the roof that was a great place to have supper.
We stayed in April for five days from the 16th. Weather was sunny and warm but still heeded a warm jacket. Anna's place was perfectly located e.g. 10 mins to Rialto Bridge, approx 30 mins to St Marks Square, 10 mins to railway station and water buses and few mins to nearest grand canal stop Stan Stae. Coop (supermarket) just around the corner in a nice square with restaurants; morning coffee shop nearby called Majer, lovely staff and food. A nice quiet residential area. Restaurant Zucca very nearby, great food and an amazing owner, need to book in advance. We felt very very comfortable and safe during our stay at the apartment, and being out in the evening. Apartment was homely and made us feel like we wereVenetian living. Even though we didn't cook in house, kitchen had everything you need and everything in apartment worked without fault. WiFi access was great. Our children 13 and 11 shared the second room with no Space problem and beds were comfy too. Due to the morning check out but late flight, left our luggage in the hallway all day, not worried and perfectly safe. Water bus stop San Stae at the end of street allows you to catch a specific water bus service to and from the airport Marco Polo. Communication with Anna was great and she responded immediately every time we had a question. Very reassuring as we were delayed on our inbound flight arriving in the early hours of the morning. Really appreciated this and the help she arranged in meeting us. A nice place to stay in a great location to experience Venice as first time visitors. Thank you.
There was a little mix up with the texts between us to arrange meeting times, but eventually it worked out and Anna came to meet us to show us the apartment. It is a lovely area of Venice, Santa Cruz and very close to the Grand Canal(vaparetto St Stae). We quickly felt at home in the area and in the apartment which is very spacious, beautiful and tastefully furnished and well equipped with everything we needed. It really is the perfect place from which to explore Venice, being at such a central location, yet in a very pleasant, quiet neighbourhood .The square nearby has excellent cafes and restaurant a large co op and other shops, grocers and bakery and hardware shop etc. We loved the fact that there is a lot of local life going on, and it's not so much of a touristy area.We enjoyed having breakfast in the square which is used for small scale musical events and art as well as family football! It is definitely a place you could happily bring a family. it feels a safe area to walk about in.The apartment has a roof terrace, which is lovely , but it was so hot while we were there that we could not use it much.
Everything was really perfect and just as described. Actually I found the apartment even prettier than I imagined. Anna was very nice and helpful. The flat is in a perfect location. Very close to the Vaporetto station and also to nice restaurants, supermarket and a lovely square to just sit and relax. We mainly walked everywhere - also St Marco. So it is central and just how you imagine Venice - but not in the middle of the crowd. I can definitely recommend the place!
