The space

This Bed & Breakfast is a 1920s family house lived in by the Irish owner Mrs Natalie Finch. It is situated in the middle of East Bergholt, birthplace of John Constable, within easy access to Flatford and close to the beautiful footpaths of Dedham Vale. It is five minutes' walking distance from two pubs where it is possible to obtain an evening meal.

Upstairs there are two twin-bedded bedrooms with wash basin, television, and kettle with complementary tea and coffee. The bathroom and W/C are next door to these bedrooms. Downstairs there is one single room with en-suite shower, television, and kettle with complementary tea and coffee.

Guests are welcome to sit in the drawing room, or walk through the garden.

The proprietor is Natalie Finch, a charming Irish lady. All guests will be given a really warm welcome, a cup of tea, biscuits and a chat! Mrs Finch will be present during the guest's stay -- unless she is busy in the garden!

Rosemary is located on Rectory Hill in the heart of East Bergholt. It is 100 metres away from East Bergholt church, which is the only church in England where the bells are pushed by hand. Rosemary is 5 minutes’ drive, or 20 minutes' walk from Flatford Mill, made famous by John Constable's painting 'The Haywain'. Many people stay at Rosemary to take courses at Flatford Mill Field Studies Centre.

There is free parking on site. Rosemary is 10 minutes' taxi ride from Manningtree station, which has direct links to London and Norwich. It is 1 hour's taxi ride from Stanstead Airport. There are buses every hour from East Bergholt to Ipswich and Colchester.

We offer a full English breakfast using locally sourced produce. Alternatively a continental breakfast of cereal of your choice, home made marmalade, fruit juice, toast and fruit are served.

We had a lovely warm welcome from Natalie, had a cup of tea in her inspirational garden and an introduction to the house and surroundings. The area is really beautiful. A perfect weekend away.

Rosemary in East Bergholt was a very pleasant place to stay, with a cultured and informative host. It was quite expensive, and best contacted outside Airbnb. I am a bit concerned about Airbnb: it is a brilliant aggregator site and testament to the cleverness of West Coast tech firms. But the company serving the UK is registered in Ireland and payment is in euros. It may pay VAT in the UK, but does it pay any tax? Or is it dodging tax? We strongly approve staying in B&Bs in order to get cash to the forest floor of the economy. That's the opposite of tech giants playing games with taxation. If it is doing business in the UK, it should stump up in the UK, too. Unfortunately, the internet is now rammed with these aggregator sites, whereas five years ago the websites of individual B&Bs popped up quite easily. That is to the detriment of consumers, and tiny businesses like Primrose B&B.

We couldn't hope for a better stay! The property and its garden are beautiful and full of character, an our host was absolutely lovely! We were received with a nice cup of tea and biscuits (some even for our lovely baby), the room was big, comfy and immaculate, and breakfast was delicious. Do not miss an opportunity to stay in Rosemary B&B and to have a lovely chat with its delightful host!

I had a delightful 1 night stay in this cosy and beautiful B'n'B. I was greeted with a wonderful warm reception and enjoyed tea and biscuits, finding out about the area and it's history, tour of the B'n'B and getting to know to my host. It was really welcoming and made me feel right at home. I took myself to the local pub (5 mins walk away) for the evening (bring a torch or if you like me the app on the iPhone because there are no street lights) for a drink and meal which was lovely before returning and relaxing in my room (really comfy nights sleep by the way, slept like a log). The cooked breakfast the next day was delicious and ready set me for the day of walking in the footsteps of John Constable. For anyone looking for a relaxing time in the countryside then I hardly recommend this B'n'B. Tips: Taxi is around £8 from Manningtree If you are into country walking like myself then you walk to or from (in daylight) Manningtree in around 1.5 hours Vist the National Trust cafe at Flatford Mill - beautiful cakes to be had

I went to Rosemary for a writing retreat. I found a very considerate kind host. The room was large, very clean with fabulous views over the lovely gardens. Highly recommended.
