Location

Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Just 7 miles out from the centre of Sheffield lies the civil parish of Bradfield, a quaint district of villages where the city starts to overlap with the beautiful countryside and rolling moorland of the Peak District National Park.

Bradfield is actually made up of two small villages, with High Bradfield up on a hillside overlooking Lower Bradfield below which sits beside the River Loxley. Clustered around the gothic Grade I listed Church of St Nicholas and the remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle, High Bradfield offers stunning views out across the Upper Derwent Valley, with the beer garden of The Old Horns pub a particularly pleasant spot to enjoy these.
Meanwhile Low Bradfield, where Foxholes Farm is located, centres on a quintessentially English cricket pitch and bowling green, where The Schoolrooms is an inviting tea room and gift shop and the local pub is The Plough Inn .
With several spectacular reservoirs amongst the bounty of beautiful countryside on the doorstep, it’s not surprising the villages are popular with walkers, ideally located to both long-distance trails and a superb variety of shorter walks in the area.
Nearby, the Strines Inn, Bradfield Brewery and the award-wining ice cream parlour at the Our Cow Molly Farm are well worth incorporating into a day’s visit.
