Meticulously restored farmhouse located next to Stowe Mountain Resort. Perfectly situated for beauty and privacy, but within walking distance to dining, a convenience store, rec. path, and 1,000's of acres of State forest.Private 2nd floor room with 1/2bath ( shared shower downstairs), wonderfully soft double bed . House is quaint with antiques, steep stairs and old fashioned touches. 2 very friendly cats.

The space

Meticulously restored 200 year old farmhouse with the look and feel of a true old New England home. You will arrive on a winding private drive through the woods and come upon lush gardens, fields and lawns surrounding this hidden estate. The guest bedroom is upstairs with its own staircase. The bedroom has its own small 1/2 bath (toilet and sink), desk, and even a refrigerator. The shower and bathtub are downstairs. Guests tell us that the double bed with a 3" memory foam mattress is deliciously comfortable ( but it is only a double). Sometimes you will even find our cat sleeping there. If you are over 6ft tall you will find the ceiling in the bedroom low - it is an historic house and an antique bed. (We do have an additional room with a single bed available upon request for $45/night if prospective guests need 2 rooms - just ask about it, we don't list it on a regular basis.)
High speed wireless internet throughout the house as well as very good cell service. The walk in shower with hand made tiles and separate claw foot tub are in the downstairs bathroom and available for your use as needed.
The house is situated on 13 acres next to the Stowe Mtn. Resort ski area - we actually are adjoining landowners and our property also borders on 1,000's of acres of state land with waterfalls, mountain bike, hiking and XC skiing trails out the back door.
We have a simple lifestyle with 2 friendly cats(inside/outside), chickens, and extensive gardens - both vegetable and flower - your hostess is a master gardener with the state of Vermont. Our home is right next to all the amenities a resort town can offer, but is completely hidden from the road. Within walking distance is a great wood fired pizza/ sushi bar and grill (The Matterhorn), a small store, and the bike path starts 1/2 mile down the road. We even have bikes for our guests to use in the summer.
It is an old fashioned house filled with country antiques, steep staircases, and creaky floors. We provide breakfast-homemade granola or more- if you wish. If you get lucky you may hit us when we are having waffles with our own fresh picked raspberries or blueberries! We are both skiers and your host runs the XC center at the mountain in the winter. You can ski home to our house from the mountain if you enjoy back country skiing. The paneled living room , (with a wood stove in the winter), is available for your use. In the summer we have picnic tables and a place to barbecue outside in the gardens. Our house was recently featured in magazine!! Here is the link:

Guest access

Guests have access to our wood paneled living room. Very limited use of the kitchen and only with prior arrangement. We hope you will enjoy the gardens with an assortment of outdoor furniture in the summer. We do have a barbecue grill available for guests along with picnic supplies. Your bedroom is in a private area of the house accessed by your own set of stairs- which opens onto the back garden in the summer. In the winter, due to snow, the access is through the kitchen.

Interaction with guests

We are around to answer questions and provide breakfast. We work from home in our home office and do a lot of gardening and woodworking so we are often around - but not in your way.

Other things to note

We have a small general store across the street and a restaurant and bar next door that serves food and drinks and is quite popular.

Our driveway is long and steep in the beginning. We keep it sanded during the winter, but it can be challenging if you don’t have AllWD or snow tires, or if you arrive during a snowstorm. It you are unsure about your car or driving in snow, please let us know ahead of time so we can assist you. Make sure you start up from the highway with enough speed, do not creep up or you won’t make it.

Staying at Lyndall and Scott's place was like staying with family. They are incredibly friendly and make you feel right at home. They were incredibly helpful with local knowledge and hugely generous. You won't find a better place to stay!

Lyndall and Scott were friendly and accommodating. They have two adorable cats (don't be surprised if one of these creatures knocking on your door). The pictures were humbly accurate; in person, the place was absolutely stunning, almost magical. I'd come back just to enjoy their garden. Highly recommended. Oh and if you are a water-snob like me, you will never be the same person once you drink the cold spring water Lyndall and Scott kindly provided in the fridge.

We found Lyndall & Scott to be great hosts. We were offered a hot cup of tea & a warm welcome on our arrival. Their fascinating old house is situated in a beautiful spot, especially with the wonderful autumn colours on the trees. We enjoyed hearing the history of the house. It's a great base for exploring Stowe & the surrounding area.

This awe-inspiring "time capsule" home made our first AirBnb holiday a truly memorable experience - just what we needed. The location is so peaceful, set in a large garden woodland and host Scott made us very welcome on arrival. The small fridge had complimentary provisions and we enjoyed a lovely home-made breakfast in the cosy kitchen. The bedroom is really charming, with a super comfy bed, although you do need to watch your head as the ceiling height is low on one side! Shower is downstairs through the kitchen, however there is a small loo and hand sink in the bedroom. Very friendly cats and we enjoyed learning about the details of Scott's fascinating project.

If you like your holiday to be in a predictable ‘chain’ hotel or bed and breakfast, where the furniture if from IKEA and designed by committee, this isn’t for you. The whole house, in every detail, is interesting and unusual in some way. It is a unique destination in its own right, an eclectic mix of items from a bygone age – if you want to experience something difference, special and rustic, this is the house for you to stay in, we loved it. It is a great antidote to a busy and hectic lifestyle. Scott and Lyndall are, of course, wonderful hosts in every way. A picture on a wall, given to them from a previous delighted guest says “enter as a stranger, leave as a friend”…….. absolutely true! How many other places you’ve stayed in, can you really stay that?....... exactly. We have now sadly come to the end of our stay and go back home with many fond memories and (URL HIDDEN) we just have to work out when we can find the time to return. PS Don’t forget to ask Scott to show you his array of card tricks. PPS By the way, the skiing was amazing as well.

What a lovely time we had with Lyndall and Scott! If you're going to Stowe, stay with Lyndall and Scott! Don't bother with the fancy expensive places down the road, anyone can stay there! This place is for the privileged airbnb guests. We had such a great time in this lovely place and really felt among the privileged! Beautiful place, beautiful house, fantastic food, beautiful hosts who care for their guests with much attention. Would certainly return and would definitely recommend this place to friends!
