The space
Low Newton lies directly on the Northumberland Coastal Way which is an area of Designated Natural Beauty. St Mary's Bay also known as Newton Bay has deep water reefs on 2 sides which semi enclose the bay. Dolphins are often seen. At low tide there are numerous rock pools to find. Fishing from the beach and rocks takes place.
At the back of the beach and the sand dunes there is a walk which leads directly to a public bird hide, where birds can be viewed over a natural pond. The walk then leads onto Embleton Golf Course, which is open to the public. There are many other golf courses in the surrounding area. The walk carries onto to Dunstanburgh Castle, situated on a headland, an amazing place, then onward to the village of Craster. Again there are many other castles in the area. The one owned by the Duke of Northumberland and lived in is Alnwick Castle. This castle was used as the school in the Harry Porter films.
