Joan and Russel were fantastic hosts - all the essentials were ready for us when we arrived, and the fire was set and ready to go. The house itself is lovely - very spacious and comfortable, with art absolutely everywhere! We had a great time relaxing in the house and wandering around the area. Joan and Russel left us to our own devices, though did come to make sure we were having a good time and explain how the off-grid electricity worked. All in all a lovely weekend!

This is a beautiful place to have a retreat. The surrounding bush is wonderful and there were nice places to take walks. The house itself was comfy to hang out in and we had everything we needed. We will be back again.

This is an absolutely perfect spot. So much birdlife, roos popping over for breakfast on the grass outside the kitchen window, acres of space to ramble around and find old ruins and the fabulous shotgun shack surrounds, when not enjoying the lovely warm, space full of surprises, whether the art, the great cd collection, or a 1972 copy of Rolling Stone. Sheer bliss.

A secluded country house with fireplace and bush views and no-one for miles. A winding dirt driveway leads to a comfy retreat to wind down and get your own thoughts again. Only sound is the wind and the birds. Perfect central location for the Macedon Ranges, we were able to eat lunch in Daylesford and dinner in Castlemaine easily. Found the house was cosy for two but could also sleep many in the other rooms. Fire was going for us when we got there, hosts are great. Recommend.

Response from Joan:
thanks Ben...and like your suggestion...the bumpy road in is now a highway...big machines here this week...agree the lighting is dim and wonder about the curtain too. we've lived such a long time like this..(no curtains etc) 'cos no one every bothers us. love to you.

The first thing we said when we walked in was 'can we move in permanently??' Joan's little hideaway was such a perfect place to go and relax for the weekend. 20 minutes outside of Daylesford so close enough to get into town for dinner or a massage. Couldn't recommend highly enough, we will be back for sure! Thanks so much for your hospitality. Kim xx

...fell in love with this land and village of Yandoit in the l980' living amid the forest and the tranquility of the area. Passionate about Indigenous history, flora and fauna. The environment is of great importance to us. Favourite pastime would be reading, art, good…
