Absolutely stunning custom 2015 built mountain log cabin view that backs up to 500 acres of protected Nantahalla forest. This log cabin is inside a gated community, with it's own common area for guest's at the entrance. Lake Hiwassee is a 10 minute drive away for great kayaking, boating, fishing, whatever you want ! Nanthalla state park has tons of trails for you and the family ! Not to mention there is a winery in murphy downtown and a new brewery pub !

The space

The cabin is located in a gated development, we only have around 6-7 built homes at this point so a hike north of the property, up the mountain really makes for a stunning walk and view in the morning/day or night ! Take a short drive to Lake Hiwassee that is with in 10 minutes and so is great hiking with Nanthalla state park trails with stunning views. Also the community does have a picnic area at the main entrance and nice stream flowing through !

Guest access

The basement is only to be used for Laundry, make sure to always keep the basement door closed/locked so none of the air conditioning or heat gets out :) There is laundry detergent down there but we don't normally stock so it is just a courtesy just incase you forget :) If you plan on doing laundry, just grab maybe some for your trip to cabin in town :)

Interaction with guests

This location is about 15-20 minutes outside murphy downtown where you can find winery, brewery, casino, restaurants. You also have access to trout fishing via many companies but one specifically in downtown murphy but you must pre book. There is also zip lining, white water rafting lake hiwassee and hiking at Nanthalla park! Not to mention some awesome flea market shopping in town and incredible art galleries in the downtown area. If you are in the mood for fresh Carolina trout or steak, murphy chop house is a must ! The grocery stores is a Ingles and Walmart in town as well. The brewery in town has flights of beers you can order and a charcoal pizza oven! There is a office in the murphy downtown that has all the city can offer with brochures at address/number/site below :

The rules of this house are absolutely no smoking inside, no smoking with a door open outside, smoke can really destroy the interior of a wood cabin and the smell can be impossible to get out.

No Underage drinking allowed in the house, period.

This house took 16 months to build, it was made with a lot of love and the interior was designed carefully and we bought some really nice furniture that would last, please no rough housing ! Just go out side for that, plenty of room on the property !

We enjoyed our stay. The deck is a great place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee (brewed in the on-premise Keurig brewer). The Deck was also a great place to observe the 2017 Total Eclipse. Unobstructed views of the eclipse were amazing.. Coupled w/ the quietness of the area made for a great experience. Going through the main door you enter into the great room. Two story open-concept room (kitchen included against one wall). One wall is all windows/glass w/ beautiful view of trees, mountains, etc. That same wall has french doors leading out to elevated deck. Two lower bedrooms were ample-sized w/ closets and dressers. Master bedroom (upstairs) was large sized, w/ large attached bathroom. The kitchen has a dishwasher and was amply stocked w/ utensils, pots/pans, utensils, etc etc etc. Directions from Mike were very good and well detailed. The last 1/2 mile was at a decent grade. Our group of 4 decided a 2 wheel drive vehicle would work but we were glad we had an AWD vehicle. Speaking of directions.. We were coming from the west (Tennessee) and made the mistake of customizing the directions ourselves and taking the Unicoi Turnpike as a "short cut". We would recommend against doing so. We had two slight issues during our stay. The satellite dish "dropped out" on the first day. We had to cycle the power on the SWM (piece of satellite equipment) to get it to work again.. It continued to work flawlessly afterward. Our only other complaint would be that the temperature in the great room tended to run a little warm (even w/ AC turned on). This was only an issue during the afternoon/early eve. The bedroom temps were fine. That said, being away from civilization it was nice to actually open the windows in the evening and enjoy the sounds of the mountains and the cool air. Mike always responded promptly to any questions we had prior to and during our trip. We would gladly book again if our plans ever brought us back to the area.

The house is exactly as advertised. If you want seclusion - this is a great mix of feeling like you're up in the mountains while still being able to shoot down into town. There are things to do in any one direction, but it can be a drive, especially if you're not used to windy turning roads. All-in-all it's a great deal for Mikes place and the fact that he is readily available (via text) made us feel at ease. The sleepy little town of Murphy is quaint and fun to walk thru the local shops. There are also multiple surrounding little villages and parks / hiking trails you can explore. Highly recommended.

Mike was very responsive during our planning process as we were trying to figure out what materials and household items we would need to bring vs. what he kept stocked in the home. The cabin itself was delightful: remote, clean, airy, beautifully and simply decorated, and it awarded gorgeous views from the porch and on the drive up and down the mountain. We enjoyed exploring the Murphy River Walk, rambling around the quaint downtown area, and relaxing in hammocks (we brought with us) during the afternoons.

The cabin was amazing. Just as the pictures show. It's a very private cabin where the sound of the river can be heard while sitting on the back deck. The cabin was fully stocked and very comfortable. We are already planning our return. Mike was very prompt and easy to communicate with. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

It all started with asking Amanda my girlfriend at the time to take a trip with me to North Carolina to look at some land in Murphy, North Carolina. Little did she know, I had ring in my pocket and was ready to buy some land, ask her to marry me and build our dream vacation cabin in the mountains. The view was the most important thing we were looking at before we bought the land. I asked her to marry me on this lot of land in 30 degree weather and a lot of work ahead of us ! My wife and I finally built our dream home in 2015 after getting married on this property.

Outdoors and good wine is a must, but truly the view from our place is just amazing, especially in the morning with the fog rolling through ! Bring some Keurig cups and some good wine from the downtown winery and enjoy our place !!
