The space

I have worked for the United Nations for over 30 years, including living abroad in several Asian countries. This home contains some of the furniture and pieces of art that I have collected through the years. I hope that you will enjoy them as much as I do.

Guests will have access to the entire first floor, including the front porch.

Other things to note
During the winter months, no cars are allowed to park on the street over night. Please use the driveway to the left of the house front.

Location

Viroqua, Wisconsin, United States

I grew up on East Jefferson Street, in the pink Queen Anne Mansion at 220 East Jefferson St. During my school years, all of the school buildings up through 9th grade were located on what is now the Pleasant Ridge School campus and the Landmark Center. My brother, sisters and I walked Jefferson Street each day on our way to and from school. I had always admired the house at 322 East Jefferson street, and was thrilled to be able to own it when it came on the market in 2016. Although I live on the East Coast for much of the year, I come to Viroqua for the summers to enjoy the locale with my family members who have remained here. Viroqua has changed substantially through the years, in many ways for the better in terms of its diverse population and expanded social and cultural activities. But all of it is possible because of the enthusiasm and care with which the community was established and maintained for so many years.

This Craftsman Bungalow is in the most historic part of Viroqua, which includes many 19th and early 20th century homes. A walking tour is available from the Vernon County historical society. Caddy corner to the house is The Ark, a performing arts venue, and the Post Office up the street has a WPA era mural well worth visiting. The Landmark Center, the large brick building to the East, visible from the dining room windows, was also built in 1923 as the High School. The building remains a substantial resource for the community, with performance and office space, as well as a gym.

The Food Co-op is a 10 minute walk from the house--simply go north on Washington Street. then left on Broadway. The Co-op has an extensive inventory, including ready to eat items.

Main Street contains some interesting resale shops, restaurants and small retail stores. There is a new Public Library at the intersection of Jefferson and Rock streets, one block from Main Street.

The Farmer's Market is held on Saturday mornings on Main Street in the Technical School parking lot. There is a wonderful array of products made locally as well as baked goods, meats and produce. Not to be missed!
