As already communicated to Tom I am sorry for him experience. My duty to make some clarifications. About what Tom writes "We have offered to change this review if the host can demonstrate improvements to security." He never told me anything written about it. In any case I do not understand why he should have changed his review of future improvements in security. Improvements already in place afer Tom's check out. Another major inaccuracy, deliberate? I personally called 911 at 6.08am and the phone is recorded on my mobile phone. I had already explained to Tom that the mechanisms of justice are not the same as he is used to in Canada. Investigators arrive at the place of the theft only after a report is made in the office. For this reason I had advised him to go directly to the police offices in the early hours of the morning. The nearest Police office is in Santa Cruz, about 25 km away. from Tamarindo. At night it would be impossible for Tom to find him and at that time, at 4 in the morning, he would probably have to wait for hours. So after I personally called 911 at 6 am. the agents arrived at 7am. The same agents told Tom to go to the Santa Cruz offices to report. Other inaccuracies. Windows of the apartments have bars. The doors have good locks. The intruder had to force one of the doors, that of the patio, with noise. Unfortunately, Tom did not hear anything. To hear noises at night or to wake up is a subjective matter. Tom writes that I want to discharge responsibility, I honestly do not understand it. It's a fact. Tom does not have this talent that would have been useful in this case. I have already explained to Tom that in the night or without light, security cameras are useless. The security agencies do not guarantee the contents of the apartments. Do not even discourage theft. Sometimes the night guard sleep or worse, they agree with the thieves. As already said to Tom, we are not in Canada. In the Latin countries also in Costa Rica things are different. Clearly I respect Tom's opinion of what could be done for security. I could suggest to him, living here at least one year to get an opinion based on true experience and not just on his own personal ideas. The neighbors of the apartment 6. The police did not encounter evidence of breakdowns in their door. Not even evidence of anyone entering the property by climbing over the surronding wall. Wall which is covered with glass at its top. Tom's neighbors' stay has been only one night. We host clients all year round and obviously do not know anyone's personal history.. In the other two cases of theft it became clear that the customers concerned had not closed doors and / or windows well. Who at home goes to sleep with open doors? Never told Tom that it is his responsibility. I pointed out that in the apartments there is a safe. Some customers use it others not. I have also explained that it is impossible for me to pay for items I have not seen or for money, only on the words of any client. Tom made a report and the police is already working to recover Tom's objects. Now I read that Tom has been in 5 other properties. All best in terms of security. Tom's stay at my apartment has been 13 days before the unfortunate event. Until then he never told me perplexities about security. Question. Has anyone ever visited thieves in his own house? And only afterwards do we realize that we need to increase our home's safety? So I did my best according to my experience. The two previous cases mentioned by Tom are not to be evaluated in my opinion. As already written, the customers involved had left their doors and / or windows open. I offered Tom a discount instead of a refund. First as already written I do not feel like adopting a policy of this kind. In no case. Excluding Tom that I consider an honest person, I can not refund only on the basis of what the clients tell me. I rent apartments for days, weeks, months. In the property there is a maintenance man every day. If a customer needs an intervention, we provide without additional costs. But I never heard that a tenant asks for refunds from the owner of the rented apartment. A window does not close well? We repair it in the day. Does the air conditioning not cool? We repair it in the day. Does the door lock do not work well? We can change it. Similarly, in my humble opinion, those who rent a car can suffer a theft. Broken glass and cell phone or lap top stolen. Do we ask for a refund from the company that rented the car to us ? Second and final. I proposed a discount to show that I believe what Tom says. But as written before. Who has had the unfortunate experience of being stolen in his own home, then left his home? Or did he increase security measures? I did this. Just amazing. Location, beautiful place, clean, great price. We stay close to 2 weeks w my little ones and we will be coming back for sure. Everything hung was just perfect.
