The space

Our small hotel with six apartments are located in the beautiful little town of Mahahual

The apartments have A/C and are fully furnished with a table, chairs and a equipped kitchen with fridge and microwave included. All the apartments have a private bathroom and a double bed perfect for couples.

There's a grocery store nearby where you can find everything you need, also there is an ATM and many shops to buy souvenirs and art crafts.

Mahahual Mexico is La Costa Maya's newest tourist town on the Mexican Caribbean; cruise ship gateway to southern Quintana Roo's little known Mayan ruins & beaches. Not too many years ago Mahahual (also spelled Majahual) was nothing more than a few palapas on the beach and an outpost for the Mexican Navy. Then the cruise ship industry took an interest in Mahahual's undeveloped coastline and built a deep water pier for their boats. It didn't take long for an entire town to spring up. Then came Hurricane Dean in 2007, a devastating blow that has taken two years overcome. Now Mahahual is on the move again with a much improved beach front, a new malecón paved pedestrian walkway for strolls right in front of the beach, and a totally improved tourist zone that still retains the flavor of its Mexican Caribbean roots. The center of town is actually quite small but beaches stretch north to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve and south to the coastal town of Xcalak, last stop before Belize, C.A.
Satellite TV and Internet are available for a small fee.

We recommend this place for 20 US$, not more. It was dirty, far away from the beach and the point on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map was more than 30 km away. If you want to cook, you have to pay an extra of 25 US$ to have utensils and pan (it was not written in the description) The shower is dangerous (electricity close of the head shower with tape).

Valentin, the property manager was a peach. We found this listing at the last moment during the holidays and were happy to have found a place in Mahahual. However, don't expect anything fancy- there was hot water & air conditioning, but that's about it. Backpackers would probably be comfortable here with the low price & having their own utensils, etc to make use of the refrigerator, stove & sink. The pictures show the beautiful beach, which is a 10 minute walk away, not in the front yard. However, we loved Mahahual in between the cruise ship visitors- the people were friendly and it is a laid back place once you get beyond the Malecon.
