Hidden Cottage River Retreat is a lovely 2 bedroom/1 bath bungalow that is truly a nature lover's hideaway. The cottage is nestled on a private wooded lot and though it is not on the water, it is a quick walk to the gorgeous spring-fed Wakulla River and community dock where you can swim and fish. Or being your boat or kayaks and use the boat ramp for easy access to paddle/boat on the river. Peaceful morning and evening paddling increases your chance to encounter wildlife on the river.

The space
Kayaks and/or a canoe can be made available for an additional (but very reasonable) rental rate during your stay so that you can really experience the beauty of this treasured local resource. While exploring the river, be on the lookout for manatees, gators, otters, herons, Bald Eagles and Osprey.

A large screened porch runs the length of the cottage and a wide kitchen window overlooks the lovely private back yard.

Enjoy coffee or morning meditation from another a private deck that sits just off the kitchen, high among the trees, and overlooks a wooded walking path that winds through the woods along the side of the cottage. Relax and unwind among the trees in the private back yard.

Guest access
The entire cottage, front yard and back yard are available for you to use. There are 4 outbuildings on property: one small cute building is the laundry room and is on the walkway just outside the front door. The other outbuildings on the property are not for guest use.

This established river community was built in the 1970's and was appropriately named Mysterious Waters, originally thought to be the English translation for the Native American name for the river (the Wakulla River) along which the neighborhood was built. Mysterious Waters has an eclectic array of river community homes, with older and newer homes alike. The residents will tell you that they LOVE living in this neighborhood because it is on the river, it is safe and as everyone is friendly. Walk the dirt road just a 4-minute walk to the river, community park and dock or just enjoy a stroll around the neighborhood for exercise.

My husband, 13-year-old son and I recently moved from the mountains of southwest Virginia where we hosted a guest cottage through Airbnb for more than a year. I REALLY enjoyed being an Airbnb host and now that we have moved to the Tallahassee area, I am excited to work with Airbnb guests again. While I am not providing lodging for guests at this time, the opportunity to guide paddling excursions on the beautiful river that runs behind our backyard brings me a lot of joy. I am excited to accompany guests as we float this river. In addition to floating the river with Airbnb guests, I am currently working as a Clinical Social Worker, a freelance writer and I lead mindfulness retreats from our home. When I am not working, likely you will find me and my family on a trail somewhere or, as we did for 2 1/2 weeks this summer, touring the country in our little RV. We LOVE to travel!

During your stay
My husband and I live less than two miles away and are around much of the time, though we do return to Virginia for a couple of months during the year. During these months, a caretaker is a phone call away.
